Scott For Florida Campaign Announces Participation In Upcoming Debates

Jun. 22, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the Scott for Florida campaign announced it will participate in a series of debates this fall as part of Governor Rick Scott’s campaign for U.S. Senate. As of Monday, the Scott for Florida campaign has accepted invitations from the following debates. We are continuing to review other invitations and will make additional announcements this summer: Telemundo 51 Miami Jacksonville University Public Policy Institute and WJXT Channel 4 CNN “We are looking forward to participating in several debates prior to November in order to give Floridians every opportunity to hear from Governor Rick Scott about how he plans to reform Washington to make it work for Floridians – not for career politicians. We hope Bill Nelson will accept the invitations to join us, and are curious to see how he will try to defend his weak record of accomplishments for Florida families over the course of his nearly half century in office. Bill Nelson continues to be all talk, no action on the issues, but Floridians won’t settle for smoke and mirrors in a debate setting.” – Lauren Schenone, Scott for Florida Press Secretary

Gov. Rick Scott: Bill Nelson Has Done Nothing To Fix Our Broken Immigration System

Jun. 22, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the Scott for Florida campaign released the below statement from Governor Rick Scott on how Bill Nelson has done nothing to fix our broken immigration system. Governor Rick Scott said, “I have continued to say that I am completely opposed to this policy of separating children from their parents. While these parents did break our laws by entering the United States illegally, I do not believe our country should respond by tearing these families apart. With the exception of those legitimately seeking asylum from oppressive regimes, all those who enter illegally should be deported. “Let’s be very clear about this – the chaos at our border will continue until we secure the border. Washington’s failure to secure our border has been a bi-partisan failure for many decades. Bill Nelson first went to Washington when Jimmy Carter was President. Since that time, he has done nothing to secure our borders. He has done nothing to fix our broken immigration system. In 40 years, he has done nothing but talk. Does he want another 40 years to work on it? Washington is full of career politicians who are all talk but who produce no results, and Bill Nelson is exhibit A. “Now Bill Nelson has signed on to a bill in the Senate which would make ‘catch and release’ our new law at the border. This extremely liberal idea is a recipe for an open border. Legal immigration makes our country stronger; illegal immigration makes our country weaker. Bill Nelson favors open borders; I favor securing our border. Bill Nelson favors ‘catch and release;’ I favor ‘catch and send back’. So yes, there’s a legitimate disagreement.”

Florida Police Chiefs Association Endorses Gov. Rick Scott For U.S. Senate

Jun. 23, 2018

The endorsement follows the roll out of Governor Scott’s Florida Strong Coalition, which is made up of law enforcement and public safety advocates from across the state who want Florida to be the safest state in the nation – and who are ready to elect a new leader to the U.S. Senate that will take action to make that happen. HIALEAH, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott joined the Florida Police Chiefs Association in Hialeah to announce their endorsement of the governor’s campaign for U.S. Senate. This is the first time the Florida Police Chiefs Association, which includes more than 900 of the state’s top law enforcement executives, has endorsed a federal or U.S. Senate campaign. The Florida Police Chiefs Association recognized Governor Scott’s leadership during times of crisis, his commitment to maintaining open communication with law enforcement leaders, and his work championing investments and legislation that have supported public safety. Governor Rick Scott said, “It has been an honor to partner with Florida law enforcement during my time as governor to keep our families, visitors and communities safe, and I am proud to accept the unprecedented endorsement of the Florida Police Chiefs Association today. The Florida Police Chiefs Association and Florida’s law enforcement officials have worked nonstop to protect our state, even in the face of extreme challenges, which has helped Florida’s crime rate reach a 47-year low. I look forward to continuing to work together to bring our focus on public safety to Washington. Amy Mercer, Executive Director of the Florida Police Chiefs Association, said, “Governor Rick Scott is a true friend and partner to law enforcement across the state and it is an honor to offer our endorsement of his bid for the U.S. Senate. Today’s endorsement is a historic milestone for the Florida Police Chiefs Association as the first endorsement of a candidate for U.S. Senate. Governor Scott has demonstrated leadership in the face of immense challenges over the past seven and a half years, and unlike many career politicians in Washington, when Governor Scott makes a commitment, he follows through. Governor Scott has been a champion for public safety and a great friend to the law enforcement community, and we look forward to continuing to work with him to protect our families and communities once he is a member of the U.S. Senate.”

Jun. 23, 2018

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott held a roundtable today with the Lieutenant Governor of Puerto Rico Luis Rivera-Marín and members of the Puerto Rican business community in Kissimmee. The Governor and attendees discussed what Florida can continue to do to support Puerto Rican families and businesses both in Florida and in Puerto Rico as Hurricane Maria recovery continues. “It was great to meet with my friend, Lieutenant Governor Luis Rivera-Marín, and business leaders in the Puerto Rican community to discuss Florida’s efforts to support Puerto Rican families and businesses following this devastating hurricane. I look forward to continuing to work together to ensure they have the resources they need to succeed,” said Governor Rick Scott.

Gov. Rick Scott Secures Endorsement Of 55 Florida Sheriffs

Jun. 23, 2018

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott today joined law enforcement leaders at an event in St. Petersburg to announce the endorsement of 55 Florida sheriffs for Governor Scott’s bid for U.S. Senate. Sheriffs in attendance recognized Governor Scott’s leadership during times of crisis, his commitment to maintaining open communication with law enforcement leaders, and his work championing investments and legislation that have supported public safety by providing law enforcement organizations with the resources they need. The Governor also announced the roll out of his Florida Strong Coalition, which will be made up of law enforcement and public safety advocates from across the state who want to see Florida be the safest state in the nation – and who are ready to elect a new leader to the U.S. Senate that will take action to make that happen. Governor Rick Scott said, “Throughout my time as governor, I have been honored to partner with Florida’s law enforcement leaders to champion important public safety investments and legislation to keep our families, visitors and communities safe. These brave, hardworking heroes help make Florida the best place for families to achieve their dreams, and today, I am proud to accept the endorsement of 55 Florida Sheriffs from all across the state. I am also proud to roll out my Florida Strong Coalition, thanks to the efforts and leadership of Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, so we can continue to work together to make Florida the safest state in the nation. “Over the past two years, we have seen our state’s law enforcement community demonstrate their dedication to our state in the face of extreme challenges, from natural disasters to senseless violence. Each time, I have been humbled to see law enforcement organizations and Floridians from all across our large and diverse state come together to show that Florida is strong. Unfortunately, we have not seen the same public safety leadership we have here in Florida at the federal level. We have seen the FBI fail time and time again to take action when they were warned about impending tragedy in Florida, with no accountability or transparency for the families whose lives were forever changed. It’s infuriating that the FBI has ignored our calls for answers, and that politicians in Congress have not done more to demand responsibility. Florida families deserve more.” The following 55 Florida sheriffs have endorsed Governor Rick Scott’s campaign for U.S. Senate: ·      PINELLAS COUNTY SHERIFF BOB GUALTIERI ·      ALACHUA COUNTY SHERIFF SADIE DARNELL ·      BAKER COUNTY SHERIFF SCOTTY RHODEN ·      BAY COUNTY SHERIFF TOMMY FORD ·      BRADFORD COUNTY SHERIFF GORDON SMITH ·      BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY ·      CHARLOTTE COUNTY SHERIFF BILL PRUMMELL, JR. ·      CITRUS COUNTY SHERIFF MIKE PRENDERGAST ·      CLAY COUNTY SHERIFF DARRYL DANIELS ·      COLLIER COUNTY SHERIFF KEVIN RAMBOSK ·      COLUMBIA COUNTY SHERIFF MARK HUNTER ·      DESOTO COUNTY SHERIFF JAMES POTTER ·      DUVAL COUNTY SHERIFF MIKE WILLIAMS ·      ESCAMBIA COUNTY SHERIFF DAVID MORGAN ·      FLAGLER COUNTY SHERIFF RICK STALY ·      FRANKLIN COUNTY SHERIFF A.J. Gov. Scott Announces Proposal To End Wasteful Spending In D.C

Jun. 23, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott today announced the third proposal of his “Make Washington Work” plan to end wasteful spending in Washington by providing the executive branch with the constitutional ability to remove individual budget projects through a line item veto. Just like in Florida, a line item veto gives more oversight to the budget process and helps ensure taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely and with the best return on investment. Governor Scott has saved Floridians nearly $2.4 billion by using his line item veto authority to eliminate more than 1,800 pet projects from state budgets over the past seven and a half years. Governor Rick Scott said, “As governor, I reviewed the state budget line by line every single year and eliminated projects that did not demonstrate a strong return on investment in order to protect taxpayer dollars. Ultimately, the only way to make government function is to say no to some spending requests, which is something the federal government does not know how to do. Our focus on spending responsibly in Florida means more funding has been available to pay down state debt and invest in what matter most to our families, like supporting our education system and protecting our environment. This focus has clearly been missing in Washington, which is why the third proposal of my ‘Make Washington Work Plan’ will help hold Congress accountable for wasteful spending. “We’ve shown in Florida that a line item veto is an important tool to defend the best interest of our families and ensure taxpayer dollars are being spent responsibly. Washington should be creating budgets that serve Americans, not the political ambitions of career politicians. After all, it’s not the government’s money, it’s the money of hardworking American families and job creators, and that money deserves to stay in their pockets. Career politicians from both parties have one thing in common – they love spending taxpayer money. A line item veto makes certain Americans are getting the most value for their investment and will help finally put a stop to Congress’ enthusiasm for wasteful spending.” The Governor’s “Make Washington Work” Plan is aimed squarely at reforming the dysfunctional and tired ways of thinking in Washington in order to make it actually work for families across the nation – not just for career politicians in D.C. Governor Scott has announced the first two proposals of his “Make Washington Work” Plan: implementing term limits in Congress and requiring a supermajority vote of two-thirds of each house of Congress to approve any tax or fee increase before it can become law. More details on the additional proposals of the Governor’s “Make Washington Work” plan will be released over the coming months.

Congress Should Not Act Like a Wax Museum

Jun. 23, 2018

Op-Ed: Governor Rick Scott A class of politicians has emerged in our nation—one that makes Congress their permanent home and has no accountability or desire to achieve anything noteworthy for the people they serve back home. (“A Radical Idea: Congress Acts,” Review, May 19). A recent example of Washington’s inaction happened right here in my own state. Sen. Bill Nelson and 11 other members of Florida’s congressional delegation sent a letter urging the state of Florida to do their jobs for them by passing state-level health-care policy because of their own self-admitted failures at the federal level. This attempted handoff of responsibility is exactly what we cannot stand for from our leaders in Congress. … Government can move efficiently and secure results—if it has the right leaders. …

Gov. Rick Scott Hosts Roundtable With South Florida Cuban Community In Advance Of Cuban Independence Day

Jun. 23, 2018

MIAMI, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott hosted a roundtable today with members of the South Florida Cuban Community in advance of Cuban Independence Day. The Governor discussed Florida’s commitment to standing with the Cuban people and what can be done in Florida and across the U.S. to support human rights, freedom and democracy in Cuba.   “It was an honor to meet with leaders of South Florida’s Cuban community who are working to support the fight for democracy in Cuba,” Governor Rick Scott said. “Florida is proud to stand with the people of Cuba and as we near Cuban Independence Day, it is important to recognize that the fight for freedom and democracy in Cuba is not over. I look forward to continuing to work together to find ways that Florida and the U.S. can support the Cuban people with the hope of one day seeing a free Cuba.”

Gov. Scott’s “Make Washington Work” Plan To Protect American Families And Job Creators From Unfair Tax Increases

Jun. 23, 2018

NORTH VENICE, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott will be at North Venice manufacturer PGT Innovations today to highlight his “Make Washington Work” Plan, including his proposal to require a supermajority vote of two-thirds of each house of Congress to approve any tax or fee increase before it can become law. This comes one day after Bill Nelson cohort Nancy Pelosi said Democrats would raise taxes if they take control of Congress in November. While Governor Scott has championed cutting taxes nearly 100 times over the past seven and a half years, as a U.S. Senator, Bill Nelson has voted in favor of higher taxes and fees more than 300 times. He recently advocated for tax increases, even standing alongside the Schumer-Pelosi Higher Taxes Club in support of their plan to raise taxes. “In Florida, we’ve proven that cutting taxes is the best way to grow an economy, pay down debt and help support record investments in what matters most to our families. We also successfully fought to get Amendment 5 on the ballot to make it harder for politicians to raise taxes and fees in our state. It’s time to take this same message to the career politicians in D.C. whose shortsighted, knee jerk reaction to any funding need is to increase the tax burden on American families and job creators,” said Governor Rick Scott. “Requiring a supermajority vote of two-thirds of each house of Congress to approve any tax or fee increase before it can become law is common sense – and is only one way we will help protect Americans from politicians who spend more time coming up with hundreds of ways to raise taxes than they do working on creative solutions to bring home actual results for the families they serve. I am proud to highlight this proposal today as part of my ‘Make Washington Work’ Plan, and I look forward to announcing additional proposals for this plan throughout my campaign for U.S. Senate.” More details on the supermajority vote proposal, as well as additional proposals as part of the Governor’s “Make Washington Work Plan” will be released over the coming months.

Gov. Scott: Withdrawing From Ineffective And Dangerous Iran Deal Protects America And Allies

Jun. 22, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott released the following statement today regarding President Trump’s announcement that the United States will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal. Governor Rick Scott said, “Last week I called on President Trump to withdraw from the reckless deal because it is naïve to think that the same people who chant ‘death to America’ and vow to destroy the entire state of Israel will be honest and play by the rules. Israel is our friend and our ally and I am always going to stand with them – not those that wish harm against Israel. The president made the right move today by scrapping the Iran Deal and re-imposing sanctions against the Iranian regime. The deal has done very little to stop Iran from staying on the path of developing a nuclear weapon, and a nuclear Iran is a dangerous proposition to the United States, Israel, and our other allies in the region. I look forward to the Administration pursuing ways to make sure we keep these weapons out of the hands of the Iranian regime.” Governor Rick Scott has long opposed the Iran deal, including joining governors across the nation on a letter to the Obama administration in 2015. The Governor also wrote a letter to President Trump last week urging him to scrap the deal after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented evidence of Iran’s nuclear weapons initiative, including details about Iran’s efforts to develop nuclear weapons, despite the agreement being in place. In contrast, Bill Nelson wants to continue to believe that the Iran deal is a good one. As the Iran deal led by Obama was completed in a way that did not require Congressional approval, Congress was given multiple opportunities to disapprove of – and therefore, end – the deal. Bill Nelson voted against ending the deal three times, as shown below… In September 2015, Nelson Voted Against Ending the Iran Deal. “Motion to invoke cloture (thus limiting debate) on the McConnell, R-Ky., substitute amendment no. 2640, that would disapprove of the nuclear agreement reached with Iran by the United States and five other nations that was transmitted by the president to Congress on July 19, 2015, for purposes of prohibiting any waiver or suspension of statutory sanctions by the United States pursuant to the agreement.” (S. Amdt. 2640 To H.J. Res. 61, Roll Call Vote #267: Cloture Motion Rejected 56-42, 9/17/15, Nelson Voted Nay) In September 2015, Nelson Voted Against Ending the Iran Deal. “Motion to invoke cloture (thus limiting debate) on the McConnell, R-Ky., substitute amendment no. 2640, that would replace the measure with a joint resolution that would disapprove of the nuclear agreement reached with Iran by the United States and five other nations that was transmitted by the president to Congress on July 19, 2015, for purposes of prohibiting any waiver or suspension of statutory sanctions by the United States pursuant to the agreement.” (S. Amdt. 2640 To H.J. Res. 61, Roll Call Vote #265: Cloture Motion Rejected 56-42, 9/15/15, Nelson Voted Nay) In September 2015, Nelson Voted Against Ending the Iran Deal. “Motion to invoke cloture (thus limiting debate) on the McConnell, R-Ky., substitute amendment no. 2640, that would replace the measure with a joint resolution that would disapprove of the nuclear agreement reached with Iran by the United States and five other nations that was transmitted by the president to Congress on July 19, 2015, for purposes of prohibiting any waiver or suspension of statutory sanctions by the United States pursuant to the agreement.” (S.Amdt. 2640 To H.J.Res. 61, Roll Call Vote #264: Cloture Motion Rejected 58-42, 9/10/15, Nelson Voted Nay) While Bill Nelson has said that withdrawing from the deal would lead to Iran acquiring nuclear weapons in two or three months, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week presented thousands of Iranian documents detailing Iran’s past nuclear weapons development program and a failure by Iran to declare those activities. See Bill Nelson’s statement below…. VIDEO: Nelson Supports The Nuclear Agreement With Iran Because, If The Status Quo Was Left In Place, Iran Would Acquire A Nuclear Weapon In Two Or Three Months. “.. Right now, if we walk away from the agreement, Iran can develop a nuclear weapon in two to three months. If we agree to this agreement, which has its flaws, at the very least they will not produce a nuclear weapon until after ten years and probably after fifteen years. All the safe guards are in place.” (Sen. Bill Nelson, Remarks At The Forum Club, 8/28/15)

Gov. Rick Scott Announces His “Make Washington Work” Plan

Jun. 22, 2018

MEDLEY, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott today rolled out the second proposal of his “Make Washington Work” Plan to require a supermajority vote of two-thirds of each house of Congress to approve any tax or fee increase before it can become law. Just like Governor Scott has championed this year in Florida, this proposal will help ensure Congress rightfully treats tax and fee increases as an absolute last resort, not as a knee-jerk reaction to fund government waste. While Governor Scott has championed cutting taxes nearly 100 times over the past seven and a half years, as a U.S. Senator, Bill Nelson has voted in favor of higher taxes and fees more than 300 times. The Governor’s “Make Washington Work” Plan will be aimed squarely at reforming the dysfunctional and tired ways of thinking in Washington in order to make it actually work for families across the nation – not just for career politicians in DC. Governor Scott previously announced his first proposal of his “Make Washington Work” Plan to require term limits in Congress. Governor Rick Scott said, “For far too long, Washington has only worked to help the career politicians. This old way of thinking must stop now. Today I am rolling out my second proposal of my ‘Make Washington Work’ Plan that will help reform Washington so that it actually works for families. Requiring a supermajority vote of two-thirds of each house of Congress to approve any tax or fee increase before it can become law is common sense. “I know that many people will say this cannot be done, or that this has been proposed and failed before. That way of old thinking by career politicians is what has allowed Washington to become so dysfunctional. Today, Florida is proof that we can get things done when others say we can’t. Just this year, we fought to get Amendment 5 on the November ballot so Floridians have the opportunity to vote to make it harder for politicians to raise taxes and fees in Florida. “Career politicians often see raising taxes and fees as the only way to fund government waste, regardless of the impact it could have on families or job creators. In Florida, we know that keeping more money in the hands of our hardworking taxpayers and job creators is the best way to ensure long-term economic growth. It is time to bring that way of thinking to Washington and that is what I am going to do as a U.S. Senator.” The Governor will be unveiling multiple proposals of his “Make Washington Work” Plan. Additional details on the supermajority vote proposal, as well as more information on the Governor’s “Make Washington Work Plan” will be released over the coming months.

Puerto Rico Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón Endorses Rick Scott For U.S. Senate

Jun. 22, 2018

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Puerto Rico Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón today endorsed Governor Rick Scott’s bid for U.S. Senate at an event in Kissimmee. Congresswoman González-Colón recognized Governor Scott’s continued work supporting Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria and his commitment to the Puerto Rican community. “Governor Rick Scott has been a consistent leader, supporter and advocate for the Puerto Rican community and for our families both on the island and here in Florida. He made a commitment to help our community even before Hurricane Maria made landfall and has truly followed through, which is something we need more of in Washington.” said Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón, who also endorsed and campaigned for Governor Scott in 2014. “They say that hard times will always reveal true friends, and I cannot think of a better friend to the American citizens of Puerto Rico than Governor Scott. Thus, I am proud to once again announce my endorsement of Governor Scott, this time for the U.S. Senate, and I look forward to welcoming a dear friend and unconditional supporter of Puerto Rico to D.C.” “It has been an honor to work alongside Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón on Puerto Rico’s ongoing recovery and I have been proud to join her in fighting to make sure the families of Puerto Rico who are here in Florida have all the resources they need to succeed,” said Governor Rick Scott. “I appreciate Congresswoman González-Colón’s support as we continue to work together on behalf of the Puerto Rican community in Florida and across our nation.”

Rick Scott Senate Campaign Raises $3.2 Million In Three Weeks

Jun. 22, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott announced today that his campaign for United States Senate has raised $3.2 million in only three weeks. This is the same amount of funding raised by Bill Nelson’s campaign in the entire first quarter of this year. Florida Finance Chairwoman Darlene Jordan and National Finance Chairman Thomas Hicks have helped lead the efforts to reach this tremendous milestone. “It is clear that Americans are ready to see a change in Washington,” said Governor Rick Scott. “I appreciate the support of everyone who has helped us reach this incredible announcement today, but this is just the start. I look forward to continuing to tell Floridians why we need to get rid of the career politicians and make Washington work for us.” “We have seen an unmatched outpouring of support from across the entire state for Governor Rick Scott’s Senate campaign, and this is only the beginning,” said Florida Finance Chairwoman Darlene Jordan. “Every dollar raised gets us closer to electing a results-driven leader who will shake up Washington, D.C. We are thankful to everyone who has helped kick off this campaign, and we look forward to continuing to build on this momentum and accomplishment.” “This fundraising triumph makes it clear that the excitement of sending a leader like Governor Rick Scott to D.C. can be felt all across the country,” said National Finance Chairman Thomas Hicks. “We are grateful to all those who have contributed so far, and we will continue to fight each day to keep this momentum going and get Governor Scott to the U.S. Senate.” Over $3 million of the total raised is made up of individual contributions. This total does not include any candidate contributions. Darlene Jordan is the Florida Finance Chairwoman for the Scott for Florida campaign for U.S. Senate. She is also Executive Director of the Gerald R. Jordan Foundation, a nonprofit organization named for her husband that supports education, health and medical research, youth services, and the arts. Darlene served as a National Finance Co-Chair for Mitt Romney for President in 2008 and 2012, and as the State Finance Chair for Governor Rick Scott’s successful reelection campaign in 2014. Thomas Hicks is the National Finance Chairman for the Scott for Florida campaign for U.S. Senate. He is founder, Chairman and Partner of Hicks Holdings LLC, a Dallas-based family office that owns and manages the Thomas and Cinda Hicks Family’s sports, real estate, corporate assets, and investments. Previously, Thomas co-founded, and was Chairman of, Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst, Inc., a nationally prominent private equity firm specializing in leveraged acquisitions. During Mr. Hicks’s tenure as Chairman, HMTF successfully raised over $12 billion of private equity funds, consummated over $50 billion of leveraged acquisitions, and was one of the world’s most active private investment firms.

Gov. Rick Scott Senate Campaign Secures Endorsement Of National, State, And Local Chambers Of Commerce

Jun. 22, 2018

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – At a joint event with Governor Rick Scott in Jacksonville, the United States Chamber of Commerce, Florida Chamber of Commerce, and the political committee affiliated with the JAX Chamber of Commerce announced their endorsements of Governor Rick Scott’s bid for U.S. Senate. This is the first time in Florida history that local, state and national Chambers of Commerce have come together to announce a joint campaign endorsement. Each Chamber recognized Governor Scott’s continued commitment to cutting taxes, reducing burdensome regulations, and supporting economic development on behalf of Florida families and job creators. “Since my first day as governor, I have been on a mission to turn Florida’s economy around, and I am proud of the work we have done to make it easier for job creators to succeed by cutting taxes, reducing burdensome regulations and building a competitive business climate,” said Governor Rick Scott. “With the support of partners like our Chambers of Commerce, Florida has set an example to the rest of the country on how government should create an environment for businesses small and large to thrive. That is exactly what I am going to do in D.C., and I appreciate the support of our national, state, and local job creators as we show Washington what it means to get to work.” “The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce our endorsement of Governor Rick Scott for the U.S. Senate as part of the first joint local, state and national Chamber endorsement in Florida history,” said U.S. Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President Rob Engstrom. “Governor Scott has a proven track record of fighting for tax cuts and pro job creation policies that have helped Florida’s economy thrive. We look forward to seeing this leadership continue in the Senate as we continue to work together to support long-term economic growth for American families and businesses.” “I have seen firsthand the incredible economic turnaround in Florida under the leadership of Governor Rick Scott,” said Florida Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Mark Wilson. “His laser-like focus on cutting taxes and eliminating burdensome regulations has made it easier for Florida businesses, both large and small, to thrive and create new opportunities for Florida’s families. Electing Governor Scott to the U.S. Senate will ensure the rest of the nation can benefit from the leadership we here in Florida have enjoyed over the last seven and a half years.” “Governor Rick Scott’s tireless work to cut taxes and remove unnecessary red tape has paved the way for companies to invest billions of dollars in our state and create hundreds of thousands of jobs for Florida families, said JAX Chamber President and CEO Daniel Davis. “Governor Scott will bring the same economic focus to Washington and that’s exactly what we need in the U.S. Senate.”

Business Leaders Across The State Applaud Governor Scott’s Commitment To Cutting Taxes

Jun. 22, 2018

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott hosted a campaign roundtable Tuesday with Pensacola business leaders in one of the recently announced low tax Opportunity Zones, which are areas that have been designated by the governor in order to encourage long-term investment and job creation in Florida communities, specifically in areas that would benefit from targeted economic growth. Over the past week, the Governor has hosted multiple roundtables with Florida business leaders to discuss his commitment to cutting taxes, the more than 400 recommended Opportunity Zones across the state, and why it is time to put people in Washington who will continue to fight for these priorities on behalf of Florida’s families and job creators. Here is what business and community leaders across the state are saying about the Governor’s continued commitment to cutting taxes: Lauren Moore Cutter, Chief Operating Officer of Pete Moore Chevrolet in Pensacola, said, “The low tax Opportunity Zones will be a great opportunity to attract businesses to our area and help create more jobs. This is exactly why we need leaders like Governor Scott in Washington who will continue to fight for these important tax cuts and economic development programs.” Ashley Tripp, Vice President and Owner of Tripp Electric Motors Inc. in Belle Glade, said, “As a small business owner in Belle Glade, Governor Scott recognizes the need to encourage economic growth through his tax cutting efforts. Governor Scott hears the small business voices, even in the rural, remote areas of Florida. He understands the value of cutting taxes so businesses can add more skilled labor jobs, stregthening the Florida economy. We will be forever grateful to [the] governor for his knowledge on how to handle an emergency… [Governor Scott’s] consistency, clarity and above all, leadership. …A man of high moral values, a man of loyalty, and has raised together with Ann a wonderful family… who has always been involved with his community, has brought change to Florida… that’s why I support Governor Rick Scott….” Jamie Harden, President and Chief Executive Officer of Creative Sign Designs in Tampa, said, “I want to thank Governor Scott for all the help he has given to businesses like ours over the past seven years. We were facing a huge challenge and we have really seen a revitalized space industry here on the Space Coast and throughout much of Florida. A lot of it has to do with the new commercial space groups that have come in thanks to Governor Scott, as well as his group, Space Florida. We’ve got SpaceX launching an incredible number of rockets. We’ve got Blue Origin that has built a rocket factory here. We’ve got OneWeb building satellites here and all of this is really do to Governor Scott’s leadership, as well as Space Florida capabilities to bring people here into the state and to transform the space industry….” Dane Gray, CEO of Elite Parking Services, said, “…Years ago I know a guy that was running for governor, wasn’t the popular candidate at the time, nobody knew about him, but what we did know is that he was going to work. He ran, he put his feet to the ground and he kept going. It’s inspirational. Lets fast forward three years, the same guy walks into our office, at the time we only had 60 employees in Florida. … [Governor Rick Scott] walks into our office, and he inspires our employees so much that now I am so humbled to say we’re over 160 employees strong, all here in the state of Florida….” Andy Tuck, owner and manager of Tuck Groves, Natural AG Solutions LLC and Southeast AG Management LLC, said, “… [After meeting Rick Scott in 2010,] I realized I wasn’t dealing with a normal politician. And we start with this man right here, our jobs Governor, Governor Rick Scott.” Kelly Smallridge, president and CEO of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County, said, “Let me tell you the truth about what I know with Governor Scott. In the 30 years that I have been doing this, I’ve never seen a more hands-on Governor with economic development that truly cares about creating jobs for Floridians. He cares every single day and is out there talking to companies…  All of this growth that you’ve seen here in Palm Beach County in the last several years has been through Governor Scott, because he’s helped us in economic development create policies and create this infrastructure that’s conducive, warm and welcoming to companies coming into this county….” Air Force Master Sgt Joseph Deslauriers said, “…The Governor advocated for $1 million in the budget to go to [Building Homes for Heroes] which builds homes for severely wounded veterans like me… We greatly appreciate what you’ve done for veterans in the State of Florida. You’ve made this pretty much… actually, it is the best, most friendly veteran state. We’re going to have you up [in D.C.] to do the same work that you do in the State of Florida because God knows we need it up there…”

Rick Scott sets ‘big announcement’ for April 9 amid expectations he will run for Senate

Jun. 22, 2018

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has scheduled a “big announcement” for April 9 that those close to the Republican expect will be the launch of his campaign for U.S. Senate. “Join me the morning of April 9th on Facebook Live, as I make a big announcement,” Scott wrote on Twitter on Monday. He also announced that Jackie Schutz Zeckman had resigned as his chief of staff and that Brad Piepenbrink would take over. The moves came as Republicans close to the governor predicted that he would launch a Senate campaign. For months, prominent Republicans have speculated that he will make a bid. “I hope that he runs, and I expect that he will run,” said Brian Ballard, a Republican fundraiser and close Scott ally. Two Republicans close to Scott speaking on the condition of anonymity expressed near full confidence that he would announce a challenge against Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson on April 9. Joanna Burgos, a Scott adviser, said she had nothing to add to the governor’s tweet. “Stay tuned,” she said. A Scott candidacy could have a dramatic impact on the battle for the Senate majority. It would give Republicans their consensus top recruit in a battleground race and could force Democrats to devote resources to the contest that would otherwise go to other contests. President Trump and other top Republicans have urged Scott to run. He been putting in a lot of face time with prominent GOP donors in recent months. While Scott is wealthy and could infuse his campaign with his own money, he is also expected to rely on contributions from patrons from across the country. Republicans are defending a 51-to-49 Senate majority in the midterms.
