Policy Positions

Maryland State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- Yes

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- I believe that pregnancy tests should be affordable and accessible, and an emphasis should be placed on teaching girls to take a test when they miss a period, so that any decision can be made as early as possible.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Maryland's budget.

1. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
- No

2. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
- No

3. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
- No

4. An income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- I do believe there are some state employees that can afford to have their salaries reduced, including administrative positions that make more than ten times the amount of the lowest paid state employees. I also believe that the top earners in the state can afford to pay more in taxes.

Campaign Finance & Government Reform

1. Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
- Yes

2. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Yes

3. Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
- Yes

4. Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- I would support the requirement of a government-issued photo identification card, but only if low-income individuals have access to an affordable or free option.

Crime & Public Safety

1. Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
- No

2. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- Yes

3. Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
- No

4. Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- I support the enforcement of federal immigration laws as long as profiling is not incorporated.

Economic

1. Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

2. Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?

5. Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
- No

6. Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Maryland?

7. Do you support legalized state-sponsored sports betting in Maryland?
- Yes

8. Do you support increasing state regulatory oversight of ride-sharing drivers (e.g. Uber, Lyft)?
- No

9. Other or expanded principles
- I support lowering state taxes and reducing state government regulations on small businesses, but not large businesses. I believe the minimum wage should not be the same statewide, but rather tied to the cost of living for the specific region.

- No

2. Do you support state funding for charter schools?
- Yes

3. Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Maryland high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- I believe that bringing down the cost of healthcare by exposing Pharmacy Benefit Management companies is a top priority. If we were to require their dealings to be transparent, we can show the greed and fraud in the prescription drug industry and their lack of value in the healthcare industry. I also believe that the opioid epidemic needs to be addressed from many angles and that the state should join other states in suing the top opioid manufacturers like we did with tobacco companies. Lastly, I believe that mental healthcare should be prioritized in rural areas of the state.
