There is hardly a day that goes by when freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) doesn’t utter something so stupid that you lose brain cells just reading about it.

And of course, last week was no different.

A Catholic priest from Belgium named Father Damien, birthname Jozef De Veuste, became a saint for his work in ministering to and treating lepers on the island of Hawaii long before it became our 50th state.

He did this even though most people -- priests, 'healthcare' providers of the day, and so on -- avoided lepers over fears of catching the disease themselves.

Well, Fr. Damien didn't much worry about that; he did wind up catching the disease, however, and dying from it at the young age of 49.

So he gave his life in service of helping those stricken with the disease that killed him.

Pretty saintly for a padre.

He arrived on the island of Molokai, Hawaii, in the late 19th century when leprosy was still fairly rampant in many third-world countries. In addition to treating the disease, Fr. Damien also assisted the colony by teaching, painting houses, organizing farms, organizing the construction of chapels, roads, hospitals, and churches. 

He would personally dressed residents, he dug built coffins and dug their graves when they died, ate food by hand with lepers, shared pipes with them, and lived among them as an equal.

Fr. Damien wasn't perfect. He had some vices; he was coarse and sometimes took credit for work done by Native Hawaiians.

But he cared for the people, that much was obvious.

Still, as the Washington Examiner's Timothy Carney writes: 

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez pointed to a Catholic martyr who gave his life to minister to the least fortunate Hawaiian natives. Probably knowing little or nothing about his life's story, she held up this saint and hero of Hawaiian history as the totem of “white supremacy,” apparently because he was an immigrant.

That’s the most charitable interpretation of her tirade centered on St. Damien of Molokai, one of two men the people of Hawaii (the least white state in the United States) have chosen to honor with a statue in the U.S. Capitol. As my colleague Becket Adams wrote, "Hawaii is represented in the Capitol by not just Damien, but also by King Kamehameha I, the indigenous ruler who governed the Hawaiian Kingdom in the 1810s."

"As far as St. Damien being a 'colonizer' — well, Hawaii was never a Belgian colony. He wasn't there representing Belgium, either. He was there representing the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary," Carney added.

Moron. There’s just no other word for this woman, who is all about the ‘revolution,’ all the time. 

But she’s more than that: She represents a creeping danger to the future of our country.

We’ve survived a civil war, two world wars, and – so far – mutually assured nuclear destruction. 

We may not survive the anti-American Marxist counter-cultural movement Ocasio-Cortez represents.
