Biden reveals he got a Covid testSeptember 4, 2020
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden revealed Friday that he had been tested for coronavirus and that he plans to continue to get tested periodically.
The 77-year-old former vice president made the statement during a campaign event in Wilmington, Del., after weeks of keeping his testing history private. Staffers and reporters in Biden's orbit have already had to get tested for coronavirus to be near the candidate. Biden did not state the results of the test.
Biden relaunched in-person events this summer, and his campaign has implemented strict social distancing and mask requirements for attendees. Biden had opted to campaign virtually in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, as his advanced age makes him particularly susceptible to health complications because of the virus.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly mocked Biden for his coronavirus precautions, with his team calling him "Hidin' Biden" for campaigning from his home. During a campaign event Thursday evening, Trump mocked Biden for wearing a mask, saying masks give the former vice president "a feeling of security."
"If I were a psychiatrist, I'd say this guy has got some big issues," Trump said.
Biden replied to those remarks Friday by saying he simply follows guidelines from public health officials.
"It's hard to respond to something so idiotic," Biden said.
