Jordan will be replacing Congressman Rick Crawford on the committee and has been a strong supporter of President Donald Trump during his time on the House Oversight Committee and the House Judiciary Committee.
Check out what CBS News reported:
Republican leaders in the House are hoping that Jordan can bring his combative questioning style to the first open hearings in the impeachment inquiry held by the Intelligence Committee next week. Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has sole discretion over Intelligence Committee assignments. A spokesman for Crawford did not return a request for comment.
"Democrats have turned the Intelligence Committee into an impeachment committee," a senior Republican aide told CBS News earlier this week. "We are interested in putting together the best team."
Jordan's appointment may be seen as undermining Congressman Devin Nunes, the ranking member of the Intelligence Committee. While Nunes has attended some of the closed-door depositions, he has less experience running high-profile investigations and keeps a lower media profile. Republicans may see Jordan as a better counterpart to Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, who often appears on cable news and speaks to reporters to explain the Democratic position on impeachment.
The transcripts of the depositions released so far show that Jordan has already been an active participant in the questioning of the witnesses.
Back in October, Jordan spoke out about the ongoing impeachment inquiry, stating that he expects Republicans to stick together against the inquiry into President Trump.
“Frankly, even if they tried to change something to give a little bit of Due Process, we are all still going to vote against this because this is such a sham and been such a sham from the beginning,” Jordan said. “So, yeah, I don’t think — and you can’t undo what they have already done. We have had these eight depositions now. They have been leaking selective parts of it. Haven’t been following any type of basic Due Process. So, you can’t undo what they have done.”
URGENT POLL: Do you support Trump against Dem impeachment efforts?
“I think the reason she is going to have this vote because the American people understand it is sham,” Jordan added while talking about Pelosi. “They understand it isn’t fair.”
“So I think the speaker is going to try to dress it up a little bit. Put a little lipstick on the pig as they say and have this vote on Thursday,” Jordan continued. “It’s not going to change anything. I think you will see every single Republican vote against it.”
