David Valesky is a former Democratic member of the New York State Senate, representing District 53. He was defeated in his bid for re-election as an Independence Party and Women's Equality Party candidate in the general election on November 6, 2018, after losing the Democratic primary on September 13, 2018.
Valesky was a part of the eight-member Independent Democratic Conference in the New York State Senate until April 2018. He and five other former IDC members lost to progressive challengers in the September 13 Democratic primaries.
He served as Deputy IDC Leader for Legislative Operations and as Vice President Pro Tempore. Valesky was first elected to the chamber in 2004 and represented District 49 in the New York State Senate from 2005-2013.
Valesky earned his B.A. from the State University of New York at Potsdam and his M.A. from the University of Connecticut. His professional experience includes working as an aide to State Assembly Majority Leader Michael Bragman from 1989 to 1995, as a host at Hour Central New York from 2001 to 2004 and as Vice-President/Director of Communications at WCNY from 1995 to 2004.
