Democratic PAC to launch anti-Trump ad campaign during debate

A PAC led by an emergency room doctor who went viral for confronting Vice President Mike Pence over health care is planning to air a TV ad during Sunday’s Democratic debate attacking President Donald Trump.
The spot is part of a $1 million campaign that will criticize Trump over his efforts to cut Medicare and weaken protections for people with pre-existing conditions by repealing the Affordable Care Act.
The debate, which will be the first one-on-one matchup between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, comes as officials across the country are shutting down events to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The spot features Dr. Rob Davidson, who heads the Committee to Protect Medicare PAC. He states in the ad that "Donald Trump is engaged in disgusting divide-and-conquer politics to distract and create distrust, while quietly trying to cut the Medicare and pre-existing condition protections many of us depend on."
Earlier this year, a video of Davidson that went viral showed the doctor hammering Pence at an Iowa diner over the Trump administration’s proposed Medicaid changes.
In addition to Sunday's nationwide ad, the Committee to Protect Medicare PAC will run other spots on television and online in Wisconsin and Michigan, two of the swing states in the Rust Belt that are key to the Democrats’ election chances.
“We now have direct evidence in his budget and from comments made in interviews that he intends to cut Medicare,” Davidson said of Trump. “We have battleground polling showing health care and prescription drug costs are a critical issue for voters across the spectrum.”
The Committee to Protect Medicare PAC’s $1 million ad campaign will last through mid-June, and it plans to spend additional funding beyond that point on similar advertising.
