Policy Positions

Washington State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-life

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- No

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- Abortion, the killing of a baby in the womb, should only be allowed if the health of the mother is at stake.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Washington's budget.

1. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
- No

2. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
- No

3. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Campaign Finance & Government Reform

1. Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
- Yes

2. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Yes

3. Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
- Yes

4. Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- But we do not have polls here in the State of Washington. We are an all vote by mail. Proper identification is needed for a myriad of day to day tasks. The critical importance of voting should be held to those same high standards.

Crime & Public Safety

1. Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
- Yes

2. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- Yes

3. Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
- Yes

4. Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- Immigration keeps our nation strong and vibrant. We should be a welcoming nation, granting at least 1 million people every year the opportunity to become United States Citizens. But we are an orderly society and a nation of laws, not a nation of "men/women". We also learned in elementary school, never cut in line. Those who want to become United States citizens need to apply, live the one million plus who do so every year.

Economic

1. Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- No

2. Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

3. Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector?
- Yes

4. Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
- Yes

5. Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
- Yes

6. Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Washington?
- No

7. Other or expanded principles
- Here in the State of Washington, we have become over regulated and over taxed which has made us a high cost state compared to many other states in the nation. The middle class is being squeezed. Many of my neighbors who are retirees have moved and many others are contemplating a move. Maybe that is the dynamic of capitalism and choice, but we are losing a large segment of great citizens to other states.

Education

1. Do you support adopting federal education standards in Washington?
- No

2. Do you support state funding for charter schools?
- Yes

3. Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Washington high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
- Yes

4. Do you support increasing funding for the state education budget?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

1. Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- No

2. Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
- No

3. Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- We need to promote the use of all or partially electric battery operated vehicles in our state. I have been a leader in this endeavor. I was just selected, out of 320 National Drive Electric Week City Captains as the 2018 City Captain of the Year by Plug In America. It has been 5 years of personally driving an all electric Nissan Leaf and starting NDEW Steilacoom in 2014. We are now the largest drive electric festival in the Pacific Northwest and the 5th largest in the nation. I oppose Initiative 1631.

Gun

1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
- No

2. Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
- No

3. Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom?
- No

4. Should a license be required for gun ownership?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- Some teachers are already allowed to bring guns into the classroom if that is deemed appropriate by the school district. Very rural school districts need them because of other factors.

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- 1) More funding for special education. 2) Put back in place the sales tax exemption for certain classifications of battery operate electric vehicles. 3) Increase funding of indigent defense. 4) Make law granting a full COLA to all retirees. Our state projected revenues are robust, no extra taxes are needed to meet the above 4 items.
