Dr. Drew Unloads On Media For Whipping Up Coronavirus Hysteria; 'I Would Like Them to Shut Up’
April 4, 2020When members of the Leftist ‘mainstream media’ aren’t calling for President Donald Trump’s daily coronavirus press conferences to be censored, they are badgering him and his administration with silly, pointless ‘gotcha’ questions.
And when they aren’t doing that, they are overhyping every single aspect of the pandemic they possibly can — for clicks and views.
Increasingly, though, Americans are getting tired of it, and that includes TV and talk radio personality — and actual physician — Dr. Drew Pinsky.

During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Pinsky was asked about the media’s pandemic coverage, and he didn’t hold anything back.
He said the bulk of the media just need to “shut up” and quit “whipping up further panic and chaos” with their often over-the-top coverage of an outbreak that is serious enough on its own.
“I hate it, I hate it, I would them to shut up,” he said.
“I’m remembering now back in the very beginning what got me sort of mobilized. I was sitting in a local Fox affiliate in New York City, and there was a reporter in Italy going, ‘We have a staggering number of cases…we have seven thousand cases.’ And I thought, oh my god, you need to shut up, because this is going to go way higher,” Pinsky, an internal medicine and addiction specialist.
Pinsky said that if everyone in the media freaked out about a relatively small number of cases, “what are we going to call a million?”
“Look we have 24 million flu cases in this country, every year, thirty thousand deaths. What do you call those numbers?” He explained. “And this is going to be comparable, or worse, or who knows.
“So, shut up, because you are only going to panic people,” he scolded. “And they ensued, and are continuing to spin this thing in ways I think are disturbing.”
There are better story angles to cover, including patting “ourselves on the back for the colossal effort and the sacrifices and the fact that we are affecting the curve. We are slowing it down the way we intended.

“We should be congratulating ourselves, not whipping up further panic and chaos,” he continued. “That’s the part I’ve been upset about.”
Like he said, Pinsky has been critical of the media’s super-heated coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic for weeks now.
“A bad flu season is 80,000 dead, we’ve got about 18,000 dead from influenza this year, we have a hundred from corona,” he told CBS News last month. “Which should you be worried about, influenza or Corona? A hundred versus 18,000? It’s not a trick question.
“And look, everything that’s going on with the New York cleaning the subways and everyone using Clorox wipes and get your flu shot, which should be the other message, that’s good. That’s a good thing, so I have no problem with the behaviors,” he continued.
“What I have a problem with is the panic and the fact that businesses are getting destroyed, that people’s lives are being upended, not by the virus, but by the panic,” he added. “The panic must stop. And the press, they really somehow need to be held accountable because they are hurting people.”
We agree. Media coverage of this outbreak should be calculated, accurate, and above all, informative. Yet so much of it hasn't been.
