Other Info

Priority Issues:

We need to make housing affordable for young professionals and families and also for those working in low-wage jobs who need to live in the communities where they work. Our communities are aging more quickly than any other region in the state. We must support our younger adults and families so that they can help us sustain a vibrant and successful economy.

Reason for Seeking Public Office:

My breadth of experience, and that which I gained while working in the state legislature, will serve me well should you decide to return me to Concord as your Representative from Carroll County District 7.

Policy Positions

New Hampshire State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- Yes

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- We must continue to use education and outreach to minimize unwanted pregnancies. NH is making positive gains in this regard. But the issue of whether or not to have an abortion should rest only with the pregnant woman, her family and her healthcare professionals.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing New Hampshire's budget.

1. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
- No

2. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
- No

3. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Campaign Finance & Government Reform

1. Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
- Yes

2. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Yes

3. Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
- Yes

4. Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
- No

5. Do you support imposing penalties on state legislators who fail to attend legislative sessions?
- No

6. Other or expanded principles
- Campaign Finance Reform is critical. For starters we should reverse Citizen's United. Corporations ARE NOT people! Maximizing transparency of contributions and expenditures is absolutely necessary.

Crime & Public Safety

1. Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
- No

2. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- Yes

3. Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
- No

- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Economic

1. Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

2. Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- No

3. Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector?

- No

5. Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
- No

6. Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of New Hampshire?
- Yes

7. Other or expanded principles
- OK. These are NOT just 'yes or no' questions!! Government spending can encourage economic growth but must be designed wisely and used judiciously. We have very few revenue sources and many programs and services that are underfunded. I don't believe we have enough revenue for needed programs and therefore it is not wise to lower taxes. Regulations must be reviewed and proven to be needed and useful. Regarding unemployment benefits, I do not know what populations are not served by our current programs.

Education

1. Do you support adopting federal education standards in New Hampshire?
- Yes

2. Do you support state funding for charter schools?
- Yes

3. Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from New Hampshire high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- Again, complicated questions with 'yes/no' answers. Infuriating!I am not versed in education standard issues. I would need to understand the proposals and the arguments to better answer this question.I support state funding of PUBLIC charter schools. We must demand that our federal elected officials resolve our current immigration quagmire. There should be clear pathways to citizenship and clear barriers to entry - and funding of sane and compassionate enforcement. We are a country founded on immigration and we continue to need immigrants to help our economy function, diversify and grow.

Environment & Energy

1. Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- Yes

- No Answer

- Yes

2. Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?

- Yes

4. Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
- Yes

5. Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
- No

6. Other or expanded principles
- I believe that there are many resources already being targeted to the opioid crisis. If successful and efficient use of current funding is shown and clear need and effective programming can be shown, then I could be convinced to support additional funding.

Social

1. Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in New Hampshire's anti-discrimination laws?
- Yes

2. Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in New Hampshire's anti-discrimination laws?
- Yes

3. Do you support greater efforts by New Hampshire state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- I will continue to work on proposing and supporting legislation that brings access to affordable healthcare to all citizens. We must improve our access and quality of care for mental health services. Our current situation for people needing hospitalization for mental health crises is abominable.I want to continue to work on the issue of short-term rental businesses that are negatively effecting some residential neighborhoods.
