Policy Positions

Michigan Congressional Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Other or expanded principles
- I am 100% pro-choice. I have been endorsed by #VOTEPROCHOICE and co-founded the pro-choice Progressive Women's Caucus in the MI State House.

Budget

1. In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- Yes

2. In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
- Yes

3. Other or expanded principles
- My primary concern is not "balancing the budget," but rather increasing investment in areas where we need it most, like health care, education, and infrastructure. We spend far too much on endless warfare that does not make our country safer.

Campaign Finance

1. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- I strongly support campaign finance and would support a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.

Economy

1. Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

2. Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Education

1. Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- I support requiring states to adopt federal education standards in terms of providing equity in funding, in terms of policies guiding support for disabled students and discrimination standards, etc. But I do not support requiring states to adopt federal standards that are intended to punish schools.

Energy & Environment

1. Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- Yes

2. Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
- Yes

3. Other or expanded principles

- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- Yes, and I am proud to have received the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate of Distinction award.

Health Care

1. Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- While the ACA has helped millions of Americans through Medicaid expansion, I do not believe it goes far enough. We need universal health care now. In Congress, I will support Medicare for All legislation.

Immigration

1. Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
- No

2. Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?

Administrative Priorities

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- My top three priorities are universal health care, education, and a massive federal investment in infrastructure through a Federal Jobs Program. Medicare for All will save our country money in the long term. Americans currently pay the most for health care of any major developed country and yet have the worst health care outcomes. Funding to strengthen public schools and invest in infrastructure can be made available through tax reform. If Republicans can give over $1 trillion away to billionaires and corporations through a tax cut, we can find money in the budget to educate students and fix our infrastructure.
