Ellis Black

Ellis Black (b. July 28, 1942) is a Republican member of the Georgia State Senate, representing District 8. He was first elected to the chamber in 2014. He previously served in the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 174 from 2001 to 2015.
Black served as Chair of the Lowndes County Board of Education from 1992 to 1996.
Black's professional experience includes working as a farmer, businessman, Operator of Black's Fertilizer and Farm Supply, Manager of Langdale Farms, Teacher with the Ware County Board of Education, and an Extension Agent with Ware County Extension Service.
Following his re-election as a Democrat in the 2010 general election, Black switched to the Republican Party. He explained, “When I was first elected, we had conservative Democrats in the leadership of the Democratic Party; today, there are none. I have a ten-year record of voting the thinking of my constituents, and I believe I can best serve my constituents as a Republican.”
