Federal Judge Goes To Extraordinary Efforts To Lock Up Michael Flynn
June 1, 2020Although the Justice Department recommended dropping the criminal case against former Trump campaign associate Michael Flynn earlier this month, the case is still ongoing thanks to several unusual decisions from Emmet Sullivan, the federal judge presiding over the case against Flynn for lying to law enforcement while he was being questioned by members of the FBI. Judge Emmet Sullivan, who recently suggested that Michael Flynn be thrown in jail for perjury, made a controversial ruling requesting that outside opinions appear in court to make arguments as to why the case should not be dropped.
A slew of documents have been released by the Director of National Intelligence which highlighted the extreme malfeasance committed by the FBI in the process where Michael Flynn was investigated and unmasked during their investigation, but the revelations in the case have been largely ignored by the federal judge.
Check out what the Washington Examiner reported below:
The judge wants one to help in his effort to keep the case going against Flynn, who has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.
In another twist in the case, questions were raised when he selected John Gleeson to produce the brief two days after the retired judge laid out a blueprint in a Washington Post column titled “The Flynn case isn’t over until the judge says it’s over.”
In it, for example, was the recommendation that Sullivan "can appoint an independent attorney to act as a 'friend of the court,' ensuring a full, adversarial inquiry, as the judge in the Flynn case has done in other situations where the department abdicated its prosecutorial role."
Flynn allies now fear a setup job. They noted that Gleeson has deep ties to a key figure in the Flynn prosecution, Andrew Weissmann, and the “Obamagate” cabal stretching back to their work in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.
Additionally, several controversial officials in the Obama administration, who played a key role in the Russian collusion case against President Trump, reportedly work at the very same office as the former federal judge who was tapped by Emmet Sullivan to make arguments as to why the Justice Department should not drop the case.
Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was charged with lying to members of the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane team after being questioned about his contacts with Russian officials during the Russian collusion investigation in 2016. However, declassified documents reveal that high-ranking officials in the FBI attempted to “get him to lie” or “get him fired” while they were questioning him.
The Director of National Intelligence also released information indicating that members of the Obama administration requested Michael Flynn’s name be unmasked, allowing his name to be revealed to the media, a decision which is highly unusual given the circumstances surrounding the criminal case.
Despite this new evidence, bad actors in the investigation appear to be doing everything in their power to make sure the criminal case against Michael Flynn continues.
