Policy Positions

Utah Congressional Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Unknown Position

2. Other or expanded principles
- I am Pro-Adoption - each has their places but I am not unequivocally either. In cases of incest, rape, health of the mother, I would allow terminations of the pregnancy in the first tri-mester; but unless it is one of those cases (and never as a case of simple birth control or for a non-medical reason) I would stand firmly with the pro-life stand.

Budget

1. In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- No

2. In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- If we were to give all the federal land back to the 15 Western states, as the Constitution states (in a Jeffersonian strict interpretation of the document instead of a Hamiltonian loose interpretation) and sold the land on the open market to individuals of 10 acres or less (no corporations or larger tracts combined by family groups or organizations) and we take all that money and put it toward the National Debt . . . we would evaporate the debt and put the entire nation on a level playing field so we could balance our budget legally, onceand for all!

Campaign Finance

1. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- Money in politics corrupts!! We need a campaign finance CAP, and my suggestion is to tie it to the annual salary of the office you run for or hold. In Utah, our filing fee is a percentage of the annual salary of that position, paid when we file to run for that office. If we used the same standard, say two years annual salary, would be ALL you could raise and spend for any campaign, it would bring sanity back to the political process -- as it is now, can you say "Buying an Office?"

Economy

1. Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- No

2. Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- Government should not be in the business of economic development. That should be left to the Free Market forces and not to government manipulation and mucking it all up. Afterall, Government can only mess it up and has never had a successful (both efficient and cost effective) program, has it!! When government sticks it's 'foot' into anything it only makes it more difficult, with more red tape and a far different result. Where in the Constitution does it give the government authority to be involved in Economic Development?

Education

1. Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- Elections are a STATE responsibility NOT a Federal one. The Central Government has strict enumerated powers and that is NOT one. Even the Electoral College is NOT a federal agency, but the Electors are appointed by the STATES!

Energy & Environment

1. Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- No

2. Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- Again, this should be a State responsibility NOT a Federal one. State Compacts have worked for water and other such, why not greehouse gases, carbon credits, and other environmental issues. States already have financial enhancements and incentives, even tax credits, for solar installations, BUT THE Feds should not be involved. They have NO Constitutional authority to be involved!!

Guns

1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- You can't have "gun-control" legislation of any kind, according to the Second Amendment! Done deal!

Health Care

1. Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- Federal Government has ZERO, Zilch, Nada authority to be involved in medical insurance, either ACA or Medicare! Sorry!! There is No Such AUTHORITY in the Constitution!! So NO!!

Immigration

1. Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
- No

2. Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
- Yes

3. Other or expanded principles
- We have laws on the books, regarding immigration and naturalization, which are not being enforced and that is why we have this mess. We have quotas for immigration from each country but, AGAIN, they are not being enforced or even used! Let's go back to a workable and enforceable system before we worry about Walls and such. But yes, immigrants SHOULD use the proper system to come to the country. If they have exceptions, there are allowances for such already in the system. Let them go across the border and reapply, do it right and correctly or not at all.

Marijuana

1. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- Prior to World War II the Government subsidized Hemp and the growing of Hemp for a military use which could have fallen into National Security areas - for ropes on Naval vessels, etc. Hemp is different than recreational Marijuana. De-criminalize Marijuana and THEN there is not issue. THAT should be the first step!!

National Security

1. Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
- No

2. Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
- Unknown Position

3. Other or expanded principles
- Military force should always be a last resort! I'm saying this as a Veteran!! I know whereof I am speaking here! Military force should be used only for defensive NEVER offensive wars ... some say every war is offensive, but you know what I mean.I didn't answer the second question because my answer is Yes & No. If needed, then look at intervention; but generally, unless called upon by our allies, No ...

Administrative Priorities

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- 1. We the People need to learn what the Constitution says and hold our elected officials accountable at the ballot box if they violate ANY part of it - usurption, expanding upon it, changing something or ignoring what it says!!2. Our Congress (both House and Senate) are dysfunctional - FACT! WE the People need and deserve a PROPER Government, one which lives up to its Proper Role!! We currently do NOT have a government performing its Proper Role.3. Our Federal government could balance its budget easily if it de-funded all the Unconstitutional agencies and offices. FACT!
