Policy Positions

Texas State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- Yes

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- The focus on abortion legislation has created a healthcare system that only cares about women while they are pregnant. The lack of focus on women's health overall, unless that woman is pregnant, has caused Texas to have one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the nation. Our leaders have continued to take actions that close women's health clinics and therefore limit the amount of medical attention that women can receive both before and after pregnancy. All women in Texas deserve to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of whether or not they are pregnant.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

1. Do you support the creation of a state income tax in Texas?

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Texas's budget.

1. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
- No

- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- The State Legislature has provided corporate tax relief and passed on budget savings for attorney licensing fees in the past few years while illegally reducing funding for special education students. The refusal of the state legislature to accept the consequences of corporate tax cuts while blaming government workers for largesse is indicative of the way they also treat school funding.
