Policy Positions

Indiana State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- Yes

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- Women's medical decisions should be between themselves and their doctors. Free preventative care and family planning services need to be made available to all Hoosier women, in particular those who lack access to medical professionals. Funding for prenatal care should also be increased so we can work together to lower Indiana's infant mortality rate, which stands at the eighth highest in the nation. Violence against women is another health threat that Indiana needs to eliminate. I will work to pass stronger legislation to protect women from domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Indiana's budget.

Environment & Energy

1. Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- Yes

2. Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
- Yes

3. Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- Our state's reliance on coal as its primary energy source is a large part of our poor environmental footprint. Indiana routinely ranks near the bottom among all states in both water and air quality. This leads to higher health care costs and increased instances of asthma, cancer, and other illnesses. I am a proponent of Indiana moving toward expanded use of renewable energy sources to reduce our dependence on coal and to help create new high paying jobs. I believe all Hoosiers should have safe water to drink and clean air to breathe.

Gun

1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
- Yes

2. Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
- Yes

3. Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom?

- No Answer

4. Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
- Yes

5. Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
- No

6. Other or expanded principles
- I believe all people should have access to quality, affordable health care regardless of pre-existing conditions or the ability to pay. We will need to work to ensure those who do lose coverage are able to receive it through other programs. I will support expanding the necessary programs to help all Hoosiers get the health care they deserve.

Social

1. Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Indiana's anti-discrimination laws?
- Yes

2. Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Indiana's anti-discrimination laws?
- Yes

3. Do you support greater efforts by Indiana state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- All Hoosiers deserve the same freedoms and opportunities, regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, age, or disability. While progress has been made, much work still remains. Many still face discrimination in health care, housing, employment and public accommodations. I will continue the fight to ensure full equality in all aspects of life for Hoosiers.

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- My top priorities are protecting public eduction, promoting a strong economy that works for all Hoosiers, and passing legislation that increases equality.
