Sanderford was born on October 18, 1935. His professional experience includes serving as the president of the Computer Leasing Company, Inc., working for the IBM Corporation, and serving as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. He has served as a member of the Alabama Board of Medical Scholarship Awards, Alabama Commission on Aerospace Sciences, Alabama Management Improvement Program, and the First Baptist Church. He has also served as president of the Huntsville Rotary Club and vice president of the Metropolitan Young Men's Christian Association Board.
