Policy Positions

Washington State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- No Answer

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- b) I am a survivor of abortion. My mom chose life for me against my grandfather's demand to abort me. My Grandfather regretted his demand and we were close. My experience regarding abortion after incest or rape is personal. Starting at 5 years old my step-father raped me. Intervention in a number of areas should have happened and did not. I'm fortunate to have escaped forced pregnancy. There is no black or white answer for every situation. I support fixing our adoption system to allow choices for those having to make them and loving them through it.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Washington's budget.

1. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
- No

2. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
- No

3. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- a) The WA State Constitution would have to be amended. The rule of law matters.(b,c,d,) Why are these the only options listed as solutions to balance the budget? Let's examine out of control spending and lack of accountability for mismanaged programs and or funding.

Campaign Finance & Government Reform

1. Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
- Yes

2. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Yes

3. Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
- Yes

4. Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- a,b,c - There are already existing rules on these subjects.d) - We no longer have polls. Yes, I support a valid ID to vote. It's already a non-negotiable expectation that touches the foundation of requested resources and every day living.

Crime & Public Safety

1. Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
- Yes

2. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- No Answer

3. Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
- Yes

4. Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- a) I support the death penalty as a necessary option in seeking justice for especially heinous crimes.b) Marijuana is already legal in WA State.c) That depends on the crime, the details, the proof, and the result of the crime. Yes, in some rare instances the option should be available in the interest of protecting our society from proven danger.d) We have rule of law that is the foundation that allows society to live and work in peace. Unless and until the people change the law by an existing process, I support the rule of current law.

Economic

1. Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- No

2. Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

3. Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector?

5. Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
- Yes

6. Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Washington?
- No

- e)I support drug testing. I also support overwhelmingly helping those that are in treatment and taking steps to help themselves. Receiving benefits should have expectations attached to prevent abusing limited resources.d) Extended benefits were shut off in WA State, post recession, when we no longer qualified for the aid. The economy and need for a skilled workforce create better options for prosperity.f) No, I support access to trades/higher education to obtain living wage jobs.

Education

1. Do you support adopting federal education standards in Washington?
- No

2. Do you support state funding for charter schools?
- Yes

3. Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Washington high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
- Yes

4. Do you support increasing funding for the state education budget?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- c) Child immigrants illegally present in WA State, who graduate from WA high schools, should be able to go to college. They should not get preferential treatment and tax payers should not be forced to cover their tuition. It's wonderful that we live in a country where individuals start foundations or donate to causes they support and believe in by choice. One such immigrant is a part of my family whom we love dearly, so this subject is one that I relate to personally.

Environment & Energy

1. Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- Yes

2. Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
- No

3. Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- a) Within reason.b) Federal regulations already exist.c) If a problem arose that requires intervention for clean water. WA State is already one of the cleanest states in the nation.

Gun

I am, however, in support of voluntary safety and suicide prevention training. There are already laws on the books that hold individuals accountable for deliberate, reckless or negligent misuse of firearms.

Health

1. Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
- Yes

2. Do you support Medicaid expansion through Washington's health care programs?
- Yes

3. Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
- No

4. Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
- No

5. Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
- No

6. Other or expanded principles
- b) Yes, in some cases, however, there should be safeguards to prevent fraud.d) N/A The right to choose to die is not a right, it is a personal choice. When a person makes a decision to die they do not ask for permission. That is a deeply personal choice they decide by free will. My concern is the potential for euthanasia to be exploited by individuals who already prey on ill and or elderly victims, as a form of legal murder to steal assets.

Social

1. Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Washington's anti-discrimination laws?
- No

2. Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Washington's anti-discrimination laws?
- No

- No

It should be a persons ability, skill set, education, job experience in that designated field and qualifications, not gender, that determine pay. A free market encourages competition for a talented and ready workforce to meet the companies needs.

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- 1. Protecting families - That was the driving force that compelled me, as a private citizen, to fight for safe neighborhoods before I ever imagined running for office. The need I recognized was never about politics, money or power then and I'm still the same person running for office now.2. Protecting local businesses - Local business is the key to Eastern, WA prosperity that funds the rest of our local needs and wants with jobs and security.3. Growing jobs - Facilitating a business friendly environment will draw family wage jobs, career choices and opportunity and a bright future.
