Personal Details

John Barrow (Democrat) was a candidate for Georgia Secretary of State. Barrow lost the general runoff election on December 4, 2018, after advancing from the general election on November 6, 2018.

Barrow was previously a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives and represented Georgia's 12th Congressional District. He was first elected in 2004 and served five terms.

Barrow ran for re-election to the U.S. House in 2014. He was defeated by challenger Rick Allen (R) in the general election on November 4, 2014.

Barrow was born in Athens, GA. He earned a degree in political science and history from the University of Georgia in 1976. Later, at 20 years old, he became one of the youngest members of his class at Harvard Law School, from which he earned his J.D. in 1979.
