Policy Positions

The following issues were found on Mercadante’s campaign website.

Ridding Corruption

When Elected as Governor, I intend to rid the corruption and let the buck stop with the office of the Governor and represent ALL the People of Florida while still keeping my Republican Oath.

Enhancing Our Transporation

SR 192 was lined with profitable tourist related businesses, then a few years back a construction project that went on for years prevented tourists from getting to the businesses. Now we have a beautiful wide road, with second rate hotel’s and boarded up restaurants, the crime rate rose. The solution? LRV’s, Light Rail Vehicles (Trolley’s). From Melbourne/Orlando International Airport to the high speed rail line terminus continuing West, down the center of SR 192 to Walt Disney World. Once that starts turning a profit, continue it North across International Drive (where all the tourists went to, continuing to the Orlando International Airport.

Why not buses? Their awful, not clean and primitive, diesel burning machines. Siemens is a world provider of LRV’s, my twist on this is free power, solar powered electrical sub stations backed up by the grid. The Federal Government is backing project’s, in Boston’s LRV’s expansion, in Florida’s High speed rail line. There are incentives for solar power.

Brookville Street Car’s is celebrating their 100th year anniversary of building street cars in America in 2019. And now they are the first award winning design that have battery packs and can go wireless.

Protecting the Blue Collar workers from Workers Compensation abuse

The workers compensation insurance providers (insurance companies) allow you to be at the mercy of an abusive system when you are injured on the job. If the insurance company carries home, auto, boat or workers compensation insurance then your home, auto and boat have better chances at recovering than an injured worker. Why? Workers compensation has little legislation (laws) to keep them from abusive, morally corrupt and incomplete treatment. I will push for more legislation with penalties until they conform to the proper conduct while speaking to the injured and setup a hotline directly to the Governor’s office for workers compensation abuses.

Improving Our Economy

Treat the State like a Business. Tourism is Florida’s largest income. We have a high speed rail line (over due for completion) to run from Miami to Orlando, the South terminus is good, the North terminus could be a lot better. SR 192, It’s East end is Melbourne, passes through Saint Cloud and Kissimmee with a Turnpike entrance and exit.

Resolving Nursing Home Abuse

We all live our lives with dignity, only to get old and be at the hands of some one that abuses their residents in nursing homes. Some have no family or a voice to speak for them, the silent victims.

Priority one, have the nursing homes and assisted living facilities have emergency generators, my trade knowledge for 30 years in this field is very extensive, and there are many options. Generators large enough to power the air conditioning in the event of a power outage, for example, and hurricane Irma caused several fatalities in nursing homes due to extended power outages. The current governor Rick Scott used his emergency power to put in orders for generators with a 60 day time period to complete. The industry can fight back on the grounds that it’s not a law. Also setup a hotline directly to the Governor’s office for nursing home abuse.

I’ve had the great pleasure to be invited to a meeting along with the leaders of Homeland Securities FEMA and National US & R Response System to view how FEMA reacts to a natural disasters after returning from Puerto Rico, Texas, and Florida. Valuable information was exchanged at the meeting between the East Coast Task Force Representatives and FEMA.
