Jumaane Williams (Democrat) is the New York City Public Advocate in New York. Williams is running in the general special election on November 5, 2019. Williams was elected to the office on February 26, 2019.
Williams was the Democratic and Working Families Party District 45 representative on the New York City Council in New York from 2009 to 2019. He resigned from the council in March 2019 to assume office as New York City public advocate.
Williams earned a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in urban policy and administration from CUNY-Brooklyn College.
Williams' professional experience includes work as the executive director of New York State Tenants & Neighbors, the interim executive director of the East Flatbush Community Development Corporation, the housing director for the Flatbush Development Corporation, and the assistant director of the Greater Flatbush Beacon School. He has served as the vice chair of the city council's Black, Latino and Asian Caucus and a founder of the council's Progressive Caucus.
