For those voting by mail, the deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is May 29. Mailed-in ballots must be received by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters office by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Click here for more information on voting by mail.
Early voting is currently underway for the June 5 primary election. Anyone interested in voting early is urged to visit the Registrar of Voters office at 5600 Overland Avenue in Kearny Mesa. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and until polls close on Election Day at 8 p.m.
Weekend voting will be available at the Registrars office on June 2-3, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on both days.
Thanks to the new Conditional Voter Registration law, anyone who missed the May 21 deadline to register to vote can still register and vote on the same day.
County officials said San Diegans looking to register to vote on June 5 -- under the new law -- will have to do so at the Registrar of Voters office in person.
According to the county, the special registration rule is available 14 days before Election Day. It will also be available on Election Day, so newly-registered voters can cast their ballots at the Registrar of Voters office.
County officials stated:
“The votes will be counted after election officials verify the voter registration and confirm the voter has not yet voted elsewhere in the current election.
The 2018 election cycle is the first time the new law is in effect for a statewide election. While voters who register past the deadline will not be able to vote at their traditional polling place, they will not lose their opportunity to cast their ballot.”
Those interested in general voter registration can visit the Registrar of Voters office. Registration forms can also be obtained at public libraries, post offices or DMV offices.
Online voter registration is available at SDVote.com.
