Democratic leaders are showing their true authoritarian nature during the coronavirus emergency, as evidenced by an ‘incentive’ being offered to residents of Los Angeles by Mayor Eric Garcetti.

Like most other Democrat mayors, Garcetti has issued a “stay-at-home” order that is far more restrictive than those issued by leaders of red states and communities. In addition, he has decided which businesses are “non-essential” and has ordered them closed.

But because people need to make a living, some businesses have refused to comply; now Garcetti is encouraging Los Angelenos to tattle on those owners and he’s offering them “rewards” to do so.

Just like they do in Communist countries.

“If any non-essential businesses continue to operate in violation of the stay at home order, we’re going to act to enforce the safer at home order and ensure their compliance,” Garcetti said. “You know the old expression about snitches. Well, in this case, snitches get rewards.

“We want to thank you for turning folks in and making sure we are all safe,” the mayor said during a press conference “Your decision to stay home may mean that there’s one less person who needs a ventilator we do not have.”

Question: If people are supposed to ‘stay at home,’ isn’t it against the rules for people to be out and about looking for business violators?

In any event, Garcetti isn’t leaving this entirely to residents. He has sent his police department to 144 of some 500 ‘non-compliant’ businesses, and of those four have been referred to the L.A city attorney’s office for prosecution on misdemeanor charges.

The announcement comes after Garcetti formed his "Safer at Home" Business Ambassadors program last month. The program "deploys city workers and volunteers with the mayor's Crisis Response Team to businesses that appear to be out of compliance with the emergency order with a goal of securing voluntary compliance. If voluntary compliance is not achieved, the ambassadors will share information with the city attorney and LAPD for follow-up.

Meanwhile, in New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo tweeted Friday that he will mobilize National Guard units to “move ventilators to where they are urgently required” — before walking that threat back somewhat on Saturday.

“We do not have enough ventilators.  Period. I am signing an Executive Order allowing the state to take ventilators and redistribute to hospitals in need. The National Guard will be mobilized to move ventilators to where they are urgently required to save lives,” he wrote.

The threat drew no small amount of criticism and outrage, forcing Cuomo to parse words and try to soften the threat, as One America News reports:

Governor Andrew Cuomo has denied he will be seizing ventilators from hospitals in upstate New York and sending them to highly affected hospitals. On Friday, he claimed that his new executive order does not constitute “seizing,” as he doesn’t like the word.

“First of all, don’t use the word ‘seize.’ I didn’t use that word, it’s a harsh kind of word. It’s a sharing of resources.”– Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York

Well okay, pick another word, governor. How about “take?” “Confiscate?” “Allocate?” Semantics aside, what Cuomo said was that he is going to “appropriate” ventilators by taking them from healthcare facilities that have them and redistribute them to those who don’t. By force, if need be.

Because that’s what authoritarian socialists do.

And Democrats call President Trump a ‘tyrant.’
