Policy Positions

New Mexico Congressional Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-life

2. Other or expanded principles
- I am a strong advocate for the Sanctity of Life, which begins at conception and ends with one's natural death. My Christian faith has taught me that every human life is precious, and I believe that the federal government has no place in promoting or rewarding the deliberate end of a human life.

Budget

1. In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- No

2. In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- When proposing a budget, when looking at the needs and interest of my state, defense/research is a major component of New Mexico's economy and livelihood. We must maintain a strong, modern military to meet the needs of today's defensive and offensive efforts.

Campaign Finance

1. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Unknown Position

2. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Economy

1. Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- No

2. Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

3. Other or expanded principles
- The federal government has an unfortunate history of costly, reckless spending that endangers our economy and this continues to affect the average American on a daily basis. The federal government does not have the interests of the everyday person in mind when spending billions of dollars on programs that drain paychecks of productive members of society. The earner of the paycheck knows best how to spend his/her hard-earned dollars, not the government.

Education

1. Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- One of the pillar of my campaign is to take the federal government out of the classroom, and allowing teachers to teach. The state and local schools should be given more freedom to teach their students, not to be dictated by federal standards and examinations.

Energy & Environment

1. Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- Yes

2. Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- In the state of New Mexico, we have an abundance of natural resources that can save the American Southwest and the United States as a whole from foreign dependencies. Oil/gas is a booming industry here and I will be an advocate for their growth. In addition, without creating a domestic dependency on crude oil, having a diverse resource of energy is important in states that can take advantage of their natural abundance, such as solar and wind power. And if these technologies can provide good paying jobs to the state's constituents, I am good with that.

Guns

1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- I strongly believe in a law-abiding citizen's right to defend his/her property and life, which is guaranteed in the Second Amendment.

Health Care

1. Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Immigration

1. Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
- Yes

2. Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
- Yes

3. Other or expanded principles
- I believe that one of the first steps toward fixing the immigration issue in this country is to build a wall along the southern border. In securing the border, in addition to the presence of a wall/barrier, is the need of additional personnel to patrol the area. When we finally secure the border, we can begin to stop the influx of crime and narcotics coming into the country which has become a serious issue in recent years, namely in my home state of New Mexico.

Marijuana

1. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- Unlike my two opponents, I do not believe in the legalization of recreational marijuana. While it is evident that medicinal use under the supervised guidance of a medical professional can provide aid for those with legitimate ailments, the recreational use of marijuana would only exacerbate many problems we face, especially in New Mexico, such as crime, DWI, etc. While my opponents believe that legalizing a crime would solve said crime, I am more cognizant to the social dangers and repercussions that will come with the widespread use of a substance such as this.

National Security

1. Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
- Unknown Position

2. Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
- Unknown Position

3. Other or expanded principles
- I believe that the most persuasive defensive measure that we can have is to have a strong, modern military force that is the envy and the fear of all other nations. While military force should always be the last option, especially when placing our volunteer service members in harms way, we must be prepared, both domestically and overseas, to defend ourselves, our allies, and our national interests.

Administrative Priorities

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- My priorities are simple: I am running on good-paying jobs and opportunity, safer communities, and getting the federal government out of the classroom. As a contractor, I have lived a life when my career depended on the ability to build relationships and consensus, and to resolve disputes and conflict. I plan to serve in the Senate for no more than two terms, which means I have a fixed timeframe to accomplish my goals- a method I have succeeded with as a contractor.
