Policy Positions

Georgia State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- Yes

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- The conversations we have with medical professionals should not be regulated ? nor should the informed choices we make afterward. We must improve access to contraception and sexual education about physical development, sexual wellness, and consent at age-appropriate levels. We must also improve access to prenatal and pediatric care. As your next State Senator, I will work with stakeholders in our medical infrastructure to address Georgia?s shortage of obstetricians and pediatricians because healthy families start with healthy pregnancies and early years.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Georgia's budget.

1. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
- No

2. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
- No

3. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
- No

4. An income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Campaign Finance & Government Reform

1. Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
- Yes

2. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Yes

3. Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
- Yes

4. Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- The right to vote is the keystone of our democracy, but that right is essentially defunct if voting is not only uncorrupted but also accessible. The institution of a paper ballot voting system is an essential step in ensuring the fairness of our elections and preventing interference, both foreign and domestic. Steps must also be taken to improve the accessibility of polling places, ensuring that neither transportation nor possession of a photo ID prevents a voter from exercising their rights.

Crime & Public Safety

1. Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
- Yes

2. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- Yes

3. Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
- No

4. Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- a) In very limited scope.b) We need to ensure that we have appropriate regulations and infrastructure to handle marijuana legalization.c) This is really an age-dependent question. Should a 12-year-old be prosecuted as an adult? Likely not. But a 17-year-old possibly should, depending on circumstances. d) Public safety agencies should work together; however, not all agencies are trained in all enforcement tasks.

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- Healthcare: We must work with stakeholders to remove barriers to care so all Georgians can live their best, healthy lives. Medicaid expansion is critical for Georgia?s future. Infrastructure: For metro Atlanta to thrive, we must expand light rail and commuter bus transport throughout the region. To ease traffic congestion, I propose the state incentivize businesses to allow workers to work from home when feasible. Environment: At a time when Georgia?s business ranking is slipping, we have an opportunity to add as many as 45,000 jobs in advanced energy throughout the state, simultaneously boosting the economy and helping our environment.
