Reason for Seeking Public Office:

Dear fellow Republican,

Year after year, we see so many so-called Republican politicians parade before us and talk about how conservative they claim to be and how they will limit government and lower taxes.

Then, predictably, they go back to Denver and vote for more government and higher taxes and sell out on our conservative values.

My name is Owen Hill and I am the conservative Republican candidate for your State Senate District 10. I'm running to fight for genuine conservative reform, fiscally and socially, and to retire those failed incumbent politicians who got us in this mess in the first place.

I came to Colorado from Virginia to attend the Air Force Academy. Here, I fell in love with a beautiful local girl and with Colorado Springs. Emily and I were married two days after graduation and exiled to Los Angeles to get my Ph.D. in Economics. After finishing my Air Force commitment, Compassion International offered me the opportunity to use my knowledge of international economics to help them rescue children from proverty around the world.

While I've been working hard to bring hope and compassion to poor and destitute children around the world, I've watched as our polititians here at home mortgage the future of my own four children.

Like you, I am sick and tired of so-called Republicans who campaign as conservatives, but then once elected they vote with the liberal Democrats. Clearly, they value power over principle and prefer compromise over commitment. While I respect their office, it is our duty as conservatives to challenge their liberal actions and confront their disingenuous behavior.

Unfortunately, my opponent, Rep. Larry Liston, has been one of these people -- counting on

  • our ignorance to justify voting against you, the taxpayer, 52% of the time according to the Colorado Union of Taxpayers.

Despite his campaign promises, the real Larry Liston:

Voted for the largest tax hike in Colorado history by supporting Referendum C.

Voted against worker rights and for corrupt union bosses by killing the Colorado Right to Work bill.

Voted to give our tax dollars to so-called "green" initiatives that only make environmental extremists rich.

Voted to increase out of control government spending year after year after year.

We've all seen the destruction these policies have caused us both nationally and locally. This year Liston has run up against term limits in the House, and now he wants us to promote him to the Senate.

Do we really want to give him eight more years in the Legislature to continue compromising our conservative values? I certainly don't, and I don't think you do either.

Two years ago, many criticized me as being "too conservative" to run against the incumbent Democrat Majority Leader and said that I would have to "soften my policies" to have any chance in a heavily Democratic district.

I rejected that terrible advice, and stayed true to my belief that virtually all Americans value Liberty and that our goal must be to reach out and communicate our values personally and articulately to all Americans. This is how Ronald Reagan won in a heavily Democratic California and maintained overwhelming popularity as President.

This is what we must do in Colorado. With this strategy in 2010, we outperformed all expectations and nearly defeated one of the most powerful Democrats in the state -- losing by a mere 340 votes.

  • Now that reapportionment has given us new district lines, I am running again this year for the State Senate in a much more conservative district. Together, we can demonstrate that the conservative movement is alive and well -- that Americans are looking for true leadership and for new energy to champion the time-tested principles of Liberty:

Limited Government, Low Taxes, Personal Freedom, the Right to Own and Use Guns, the Dignity of Life, and Traditional Family Values.

These ideas are not dead, but they have been neglected by many in the interest of political expedience. I will champion our conservative values every day I am in the legislature, and I will never tell you one thing here at home while doing the opposite in Denver.

  • Will you please join me in taking this stand? Will you join me in saying that when our elected officials don't vote according to Republican principles we have a duty to hold them accountable through our vote? That when they fail to fight for the principles of liberty it is time for them to step aside and make way for the next generation of conservative leadership?

Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, representative government depends on personal relationships and trust. This can't be done without the assurance that you and I can communicate with each other.

My cell phone is 719.210.1086 and my personal email is owenjhill@gmail.com. Please reach out to me and tell me your story, and why you too are involved in the conservative movement. I look forward to getting to know you and hope to hear from you as soon as possible.
