Policy Positions

Idaho State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- Yes

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- This issue has many "what if" to justify an outright ban. I believe that more education and programs that give women better options is the right path. The more help we can offer any woman who is faced with this issue. The more likely abortion would be used only in the most extreme cases. My hope is that with compassionate care abortion would never be use as a first choice.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Idaho's budget.

1. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
- No

2. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
- No

3. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
- No

4. An income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- Idaho has had the luxury of a budget surplus over the past few years. This gives us time to look at every program we fund and see where we can downsize or expand it's funding. This applies to all taxes as well. On top of that we need to keep adding into idaho's "rainy day fund" to prepare if another downturn happens again like what happened a few years back. With idaho's growth, we have the opportunity to setup the budget to weather any storm for years to come. Smart spending is the key.

Campaign Finance & Government Reform

1. Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
- Yes

2. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Yes

3. Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
- Yes

4. Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- Campaign finance must alway be transparent. Often time large corporations from outside the state makes large donations with the help of PACs and other means. Candidates should not be bought or influenced with these kind of contributions. Our elected officials should only work for the people of Idaho.

Crime & Public Safety

1. Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
- Yes

2. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- No

3. Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
- Yes

4. Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
- No

5. Do you support the legalization of Cannabidiol Oil (CBD) for medical purposes?
- Yes

6. Do you support prohibiting the use of handheld electronic devices while operating a motor vehicle?
- No

7. Other or expanded principles
- Recreational marijuana should be a ballot measure so the people of Idaho can choose if they want it or not. But, I do think as a matter of public health that medical marijuana should be made an option for doctors treatments. I believe in community based policing. The federal law enforcement agencies that are tasked with immigration enforcement is there so we don't have to use our state resources. This is how our country was setup, state and federal. They are separate and should remain that way.

Economic

1. Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

2. Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

3. Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector?
- No

4. Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
- Yes

5. Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
- No

6. Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Idaho?
- Yes

7. Other or expanded principles
- Reducing regulations on the private sector is a poor choice of words. I believe in reviewing each regulation and taking action afterwards. Not requiring drug tests on welfare applicants doesn't seem sound. But, I see it from a few sides. One to help prevent crime, two to give help to people hooked on drugs and three to attempt to help those succeed in life from a bad situation. I would rather help, prevent and move on those people in effort to reduce dependency on drugs.

Education

1. Do you support adopting federal education standards in Idaho?
- No

2. Do you support state funding for charter schools?
- No

3. Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Idaho high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
- Yes

4. Should elementary students' reading test scores influence teachers' pay raises?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- Charter schools is a right parents have to educate their children. How they fund that choice is up to the parent and not the state. I would like to see in and out of state tuition removed to a flat rate for all people. Teaches should be reviewed but there are a number of factors that come into play with each classes test score. There needs to be an overhaul of the current system.

Environment & Energy

1. Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- Yes

2. Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
- Yes

3. Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- We only have one Idaho. Our environment should be kept health for our children. Not every environmental program works. We need to always be watching and learning how to implement regulations.

Gun

1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
- No

2. Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
- No

3. Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom?
- Yes

4. Should a license be required for gun ownership?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- I believe that access to good mental healthcare is the best kind of gun control. Better enforcement of violence crime laws and good education is a must in order to prevent gun violence.

Health

1. Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
- Yes

2. Do you support Medicaid expansion through Idaho's health care programs?
- Yes

3. Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
- No

4. Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
- Yes

5. Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
- No

6. Other or expanded principles
- We should alway try to fight drug abuse for the safety of the public as a whole. No one should be without healthcare. we have options to closed the gap so that we can get as many people covered as possible. The state of Idaho has the job to care and look out for it's people. We grant euthanasia to our pets but not to other loved ones. In ones final stage of life we should respect their wishes on their right to die.

Social

1. Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Idaho's anti-discrimination laws?
- Yes

2. Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Idaho's anti-discrimination laws?
- Yes

3. Do you support greater efforts by Idaho state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
- Yes

4. Other or expanded principles
- We are all equal and our laws should reflect that as well. We don't have to agree about lifestyle choices. But, people should be free to live the way they choose.

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- Education, Healthcare and Economy. Education policy should be built by the teachers on up. The surplus from our budget can help support funding. Medicaid expansion will save Idaho money overall. Idaho needs to try new approaches in attracting livable wage jobs. Tax credits and cuts can work but new studies on how the job market of the future will look like needs to done and always updated. We have the funds in our surplus to start these programs. But, it should be built into all programs ways to help self fund in the future.
