Dr. Martin Luther King because he transformed the way America treated and viewed minorities and helped to obtain the Voting Rights Act. I admire his courage in the face of the threats and finally his death. He set the standard for fairness and equal rights in this country.

My priorities are: to provide a voice for the millions of disenfranchised voters who have given up on non-responsive government, provide affordable healthcare for every American by amending not ending the Affordable Care Act, improve our economy by working with like minded members of congress to pass legislation to rebuild infrastructure in our cities to create more jobs, work to insure that "Every Student Succeeds" Act is implemented and properly funded at the state and national levels. Allow college students more time to begin paying their student loans. Provide better healthcare for veterans, senior citizens and the disabled.

Reason for Seeking Public Office:
In a district as diverse as Congressional District 6, residents need a representative who will serve all of them--rural and urban; rich and poor: all races and ethnic groups; hard working families and those who care about the environment. The incumbent has done a great job of representing the powerful, particularly the energy and large industrial companies, at the expense-- and to the detriment of those who suffer as a result of policies and practices made possible by regulations supported by the incumbent.

- The Citizen United ruling allows ultra-wealthy donors to donate to candidates of many states. A few wealthy donors using large sums of money to elect and control politicians, undermines the power of people to elect their representatives and has a negative effect on American politics. It's time to get both Big Money and Dark Money of out politics.

- Renewable energy creates jobs for District 6 and cost savings for consumers. These forms of energy are less expensive than burning fossil fuels. Many schools have used thermal energy for years to control their energy costs.
Greenhouse gas emissions impact quality of life and health and must be controlled. We have citizens in District 6 whose outdoor activities must be curtailed during periods of high ozone. This is not acceptable.

- Like most citizens of District 6 we support universal background checks; prohibiting those on the no fly list from obtaining weapons and if we are not going to stop the sale of military grade weapons, we must place high taxes on ammunition.

- The 2010 Affordable Care Act was never intended to be the final solution to healthcare but constantly changing to meet the needs of Americans. In District 6 the expansion of Medicaid would have further served the healthcare the needs of the elderly and children.

- The wall would be a huge waste of taxpayer dollars when the real issue is border security. Expansion of staffing of border agents, for example the Coast Guard, would be much more effective because agents could be moved where they are needed. Tunnels and ladders defeat walls.

- Use of military force is not required in every circumstance. Additionally, the Unites States needs to use diplomatic means of solving problems before moving to military force. Each circumstance will require a different solution. I will rely on the military experts for guidance.

- My top priorities are to provide relevant constituent services; work with the North Central Texas Council of Governments to improve access to transportation services; work to improve access to medical services at rural and urban medical facilities; pursue alternative energy sources to meet air quality standards in the district while depending less on fossil fuels.
