Sen. Tim Kaine endorses Biden

Sen. Tim Kaine, the 2016 Democratic vice presidential candidate, is endorsing former Vice President Joe Biden for president.
“Barack Obama wisely chose Joe as his partner in the White House,” the Virginia senator said in a statement. “Joe Biden has exemplary heart, character, and experience. He reminds me of Harry S. Truman, an outwardly ordinary man whose work ethic, faith in the goodness of everyday Americans, and love of country made him a great President. I am proud to vote for Joe Biden.”
Kaine’s endorsement comes ahead of the Super Tuesday primary in Virginia.
In his statement, Kaine praised Biden for working with Obama on the economy, health care and climate change as well as on the appointment of executive and judicial nominees.
Kaine’s endorsement is the first presidential endorsement from a senator in several months. He joins Sens. Chris Coons (D-Del.), Tom Carper (D-Del.), Bob Casey (D-Pa.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Doug Jones (D-Ala.) in endorsing Biden.
Most senators have opted to stay clear of endorsing a candidate, saying it’s too early. Three of their colleagues — Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) remain in the race.
