Former Oakland Park official announces run for Broward County Commission

Sep. 29, 2017

Shari McCartney, a former Oakland Park mayor and commissioner, announced her candidacy Friday for the Broward County Commission District 4 seat. McCartney is running for the coastal seat now held by Commissioner Chip LaMarca, who is being talked about as a potential candidate for state representative. The commission election is in November 2018. Here’s a copy of McCartney’s announcement: “I am excited to announce my candidacy for Broward County Commission, District 4. “I have always made improving our community the hallmark of my public service. Now, more than ever, that is the approach Broward County needs. “Bringing people together is the right way to lead. Together, we can address our traffic problems, find new operational efficiencies to reduce the tax burden on residents, and take on rising tides. “Together, there is no challenge we cannot solve. “There is a clear path to a more sustainable Broward County, a path that combines private sector innovation with a new kind of public sector initiative. “When I served as Mayor of Oakland Park, we got things done. I will bring that same common sense, result-driven approach to the county commission to provide residents with the progress we all deserve. “The recipe for effective local government is actually quite simple, and comes down to three ingredients: good ideas, citizen involvement, and strong public servant leadership that follows through. “That is the approach I will take as the new county commissioner from District 4.”
