Policy Positions

Oregon State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- Yes

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- I am personally against abortion but understand the complexity of the issue and the realities of the country we live in. We should be fighting for all of our values not single-issue voting. If we want Effective Government we have to accept certain realities about where we live and focus on the values of Education Healthcare and integrity to combat abortion.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Oregon 's budget.

1. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
- Yes

2. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
- No

3. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
- No

4. An income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- As a community we value the law & order that government provides. We also value education and health care and underfund our values. Until our Healthcare System can reduce such epidemics as drug abuse and disease epidemics such as obesity and diabetes, we are playing catch-up. I will fight for our state to have the services and infrastructure we will need. Industries that benefit from Vice and or have no option but to do business in Oregon such as grocery, retail and internet sales are the low-hanging fruit for revenue. See Oregon Measure 97 for an example.

4. Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- There currently is no effective option for consistently applying capital punishment. I cannot condone the possibility of execution when we cannot guarantee fair and unbiased implementation of the law. Immigration law needs to be handled effectively and responsibly at the federal level before states can implement it safely. We cannot legally and morally address undocumented migration at a state level without accountable Federal action that takes into account the 11 million people currently living and working in our communities illegally. It is a states rights, moral and public safety issue.

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- My priorities are education healthcare and security. Oregon needs comprehensive healthcare for every Oregonian. While we work toward that goal we should have a minimum level of care including access to preventative medical and dental care. We need to fund and reform our education system to prepare graduates for the workplace. Our students should graduate with work experience and education reflecting the needs of our industries. Work placement and technical education should be available to every Oregon high school student. Oregon law enforcement and Child Protective Services need adequate funding to address the issues of abuse and neglect.
