Tennessee Congressional Election 2018 Political Courage Test

    Abortion

    1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
    - Pro-life

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - No Answer

    Budget

    1. In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
    - No

    2. In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
    - Yes

    3. Other or expanded principles
    - I intend to reduce federal spending by 30%.The first step is remove the ?Use or Loss? mentality with fiscal caps. Once set, funding will be defined by actual need, than wants. With known reduction, and allowance to ?save? budget funds for special projects departments and agencies would be allowed to better self-manage than we currently have.Place a budget hold for first year, and reduce by 10% every two years for a total of 30%. Exception, being a temporary increase due to direct national emergency/security response, with defined spending goal, and placement, not to exceed one year.

    Campaign Finance

    1. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
    - No

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - Campaigns have gotten away from being about the individual, and about the money raised regardless of the quality of the candidate.I have a bill drafted for the first day in office to address this and similar issues. The direct item would place a cap of ? the salary of office being received or spend by any federal campaign. This would force the focus back on the issues, and solutions the individual candidate would like to address with the voters. Donations would be allowed from individuals only, with current caps.

    Economy

    1. Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
    - No

    2. Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
    - Yes

    3. Other or expanded principles
    - The tax system as a whole needs to be address, and be placed in line with consumption, than productivity. With reduction of taxes on any business, provides the ability to redirect funds back into the business, local communities through jobs, and sales. Job growth should be motivated, not suffocated.

    Education

    1. Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
    - No

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - Firstly, I?m a firm believer in the U.S. Constitution, which places this solely within being a state?s right.Secondly, no two states, let alone region within a state are similar. I feel the Federal should set a goal, but have the State, and educators work together to achieve those goals, according to what works best in their areas, and needs.

    Energy & Environment

    1. Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
    - No

    2. Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
    - No

    3. Other or expanded principles
    - Adding additional regulations are not the answer. If you want to motivate a positive change, you provide a path, not obstacles. This also goes with funding of any development. You can set the goals, but when you provide, regardless of outcome, you restrict other lines of development under the presumption the one is the ?best? outcome.

    Guns

    1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
    - No

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - I am a firm supporter of the US Constitution. The Second Amendment is not only very clear, but the only amendment to clearly state ?Shall Not Be Infringed?.

    Health Care

    1. Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
    - Yes

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - This like many of our issues, we face as a nation directly are a result of government getting in the way. The system was never meant to function beyond a system that redirected the forced funding of a free nation. While there are many who have seen a positive result, there have been many more negatively impacted from it.We need to remove much of the red tape that has been repeatedly been added over the years and open the system to a broader competition, while assuring accountability at the patient/doctor level.

    Immigration

    1. Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
    - Yes

    2. Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
    - Yes

    3. Other or expanded principles
    - Both southern and northern borders need to be properly secured. While a physical wall will not work in all areas, a system does need to be in place that actively uses a barrier (wall), passive, and surveillance system in tandem with each other. With regard to illegal alien who are in this nation illegally, yes they should have to go the same process as every other individual who has properly gone the immigration process.

    Marijuana

    1. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
    - Yes

    2. Other or expanded principles
    - The federal government has no place on the matter Recreational or other usage of Marijuana and is a state right issue. My personal feeling is, it should be voted at the state level for medical, and recreational use as two separate items, and the case made for and against each to be voted for by the people.

    National Security

    1. Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
    - No

    2. Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
    - No

    3. Other or expanded principles
    - One of the largest issues in Congress right now is the inability to maintain and properly us the military as defined, and in its proper scope. With very few veterans serving in Congress we find our forces spread beyond the scope of its intention, and reducing readiness. With any intervention, the strategic and logistical value has to be set, along with the goals and exit strategy. The military needs to be able to proper focus on its mission, and not used for political whims, assuring its proper place as a strategic tool for the nation.

    Administrative Priorities

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
    - 1)Bring a Voice back to the people, 2) Address and fight government corruption.I have a bill drafted to directly address both of these, by holding accountability of our elected officials. The core result, of inability to properly represent, or corrupt behaviors would result in the inability for reelection, along with additional actions. 3) Address the failing infrastructure systems. I would address this through a intergraded modular system, which would self-contain much of our infrastructure needs to include but not limited to transportation ways, water, electricity, and communication. Any additional upfront cost would be cross shared with DOD.
