Blog: We Hear You: 3 Key Issues in District 78

Sep. 17, 2014

People want less government in their lives. I have been out in my district since the day we got back from session. Our team has knocked on over 4,000 doors and talked to hundreds more at meetings, fairs and other events. The most consistent message I hear is that people want less government in their lives. People are upset about federal government overreach like Obamacare and the EPA killing Hoosier jobs through oppresive regulations. The families in my district want their government to live by the same rules they do by living within its means and not spending more than it has. They want their government to work to get things done not just play politics. They want us to care more about the next generation than the next election. Jobs and economic development are still key. Hoosiers want to improve the quality of life for their families by getting and keeping good paying jobs. Indiana has made great strides recently under Republican leadership in attracting these types of jobs. For example in this past year we have attracted 10,000 new manufacturing jobs to the state and unemployment is down to 5.9% which is below the national average but there is work left to be done and we cannot go backwards. Continue to improve our education system. Finally, people want our state to continue to improve our education system. They want more options, such as technical training. They also want to see more of the money spent on education spent in the classroom where it can affect our children most.
