Biden adds Idaho to primary wins, Sanders takes North Dakota
March 11, 2020
Joe Biden racked up another win primary win Tuesday with a victory in Idaho's Democratic primary while Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders took his first Mini Tuesday state with a win in North Dakota.
Biden’s win in Idaho, while relatively light on delegates, marks a victory for the former vice president in a state that Sanders won easily in 2016. Biden added Idaho to his Mini Tuesday wins in Missouri, Mississippi and Michigan, a haul that reflected his broad coalition of black, white, suburban and rural voters and further bolstered his overall lead in the Democratic primary.
“Tonight made one thing clear: We’re building the campaign that will win this nomination and defeat Donald Trump,” the former vice president posted on Twitter.
Despite a victory in North Dakota and a narrow lead over Biden in Washington, speculation about Sanders’ standing in the race swirled Tuesday nights as results rolled in. Michigan was seen as an especially important state for the Vermont senator, given his 2016 upset victory there, leaving him with a narrowing path to the Democratic nomination.
