Biden's Staff Says Dr. Fauci Has Been 'Very Helpful'; Fauci Says He Hopes To Stay On
November 25, 2020Presumed President-elect Joe Biden revealed on Tuesday that his staff has spoken to Dr. Anthony Fauci, and it sounds like it was a lovefest between the two men.
Biden said that he has not spoken to Fauci personally, but that his staff said he has been "very, very helpful" in the process.
CNN's Jim Acosta also tweeted that Fauci confirmed that he has had preliminary conversations with members of Biden’s team.
"Dr. Fauci confirms he's had preliminary conversations with members of Biden team. Fauci said he has not had any substantive discussions with Biden aides as of yet. But he looks forward to that, he added. Fauci reiterated he hopes to stay on and continue his work on the pandemic," Acosta wrote.
The Hill reported:
President-elect Joe Biden said Tuesday that transition staffers have been in touch with Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious diseases expert and a member of the White House’s coronavirus task force.
Biden told reporters that while he has not spoken with Fauci himself, “He’s been very, very helpful.”
Fauci confirmed to CNN that he’s spoke with the president-elect’s team and that he hopes to stay on in his role as the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
The conversation between Fauci and Biden’s staff comes amid a spike in coronavirus cases across the country, which has put immense stress on hospital systems and led to an array of states reimplementing coronavirus restrictions on business and gatherings that had been relaxed during the fall months.
Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, went viral earlier this month when he warned that while the United States has an “independent spirit,” it was time for people to “do what they’re told” by health experts and government officials to help bring down surging coronavirus numbers.
“I was talking with my U.K. colleagues who are saying the U.K. is similar to where we are now because each of our countries have that independent spirit,” Fauci said while speaking at Washington National Cathedral. “I can understand that, but now is the time to do what you’re told.”
Fauci did say he hopes vaccines that were spearheaded by the Trump administration through Operation Warp Speed will put a major dent in the pandemic.

“Certainly it’s not going to be pandemic for a lot longer because I believe the vaccines are going to turn that around,” Fauci said. “Putting it to rest doesn’t mean eradicating it. I doubt we’re going to eradicate this, I think we need to plan that this is something we may need to maintain control over chronically, it may be something that becomes endemic that we have to just be careful about.”
