The Iowa caucus has been a disaster for Democrats, and the complications were extensive. After a smartphone app was purchased by the Iowa Democratic Party for voting, the reporting system didn’t work out as planned, and this led to the backup hotline system being overloaded with calls. These errors left party officials scrambling for answers and results while the public was trying to figure out what was going on.
Elesha Gayman, the Democratic Party chair in Scott County, said their attempts were made worse by security measures put in place to protect the reporting system against outside attacks.

"We had a lot of our precinct captains and temporary chairs, and permanent chairs, that were trying to log in to the system, and quite frankly there were so many layers of security, they would get messed up," she said. Out of frustration, they resorted to calling a backup hotline, which was quickly overwhelmed with calls.
The caucus played out so bad that President Trump took to Twitter claiming victory and comparing it to how Democrats run the country:
As more time goes by, Donald Trump is gathering ammunition for 2020 from the Democrats and taking advantage of things just like this. The partisan impeachment effort led by Democrats has also only seemed to benefit Trump, who saw a six point increase in his approval rating since it began. In the meantime, things are looking good for Donald Trump, and with acquittal looking inevitable in the Senate, the future is looking even better.
