Policy Positions

Arkansas Congressional Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Budget

1. In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
- Yes

2. In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- As an educator, I support investing in our students in their families. I believe that the wealthy should pay their fair share so that every American has access to an excellent education, job training, and quality affordable healthcare.

Campaign Finance

1. Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Economy

1. Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
- Yes

2. Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Education

1. Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- I support investment from the federal government in schools so that students in low income districts have the same opportunity to succeed as a student growing up anywhere in America. I believe that Congress can assist schools in recruiting and retaining great teachers, ensuring that students have adequate supplies for learning, and that students have access to college and career readiness programs.

Energy & Environment

1. Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
- Yes

2. Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
- Yes

3. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

Guns

1. Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- I support common sense gun safety legislation and agree with 97% of Americans who support universal background checks for gun buyers. This is a common sense step to protect our kids that Congress has refused to take. Arkansan gun owners are responsible members of our community. They understand the importance of gun safety and ensuring that firearms do not get into the hands of those who may do harm to others.

Health Care

1. Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
- No

2. Other or expanded principles
- I believe that Congress must preserve and expand the Affordable Care Act. The Kaiser Family Foundation estimates that 13,900 Arkansans in the first district receive health care through the Affordable Care Act marketplace. Across Arkansas, 321,000 people receive health care services through Arkansas Works. As an educator, I saw firsthand how the Affordable Care Act gave access to quality and affordable health care to my students and their families. While the law is not perfect, I will fight in Congress to fix and expand healthcare coverage, not take it away.

Immigration

1. Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
- No

2. Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- When my parents immigrated to America 30 years ago, they knew with hard work and sacrifice that this country held the promise of a better life. I am running for Congress because I believe that the dreams of my parents are not so different than the dreams of the families I have come to know in Arkansas. My dad flipped burgers and my mom worked retail. I support a pathway to citizenship for DREAMERS and immigration policies that keep America a land of hope and opportunity as it was for my family.

Marijuana

1. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- Yes

2. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

National Security

1. Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
- Yes

2. Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
- No

3. Other or expanded principles
- The United States should take all measures necessary to prevent nuclear proliferation to hostile powers. I will do everything I can in Congress to give the men and women who serve our nation the support they need to keep us safe. I strongly believe that Congress must be consulted and authorize any increased military action.

Administrative Priorities

Please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- In the wealthiest most powerful nation on earth, it is is unacceptable to me that students go to school hungry, that parents work more than 40 hours a week but still live in poverty, and that too many of our people are denied access to quality affordable health care. All of these things cost money. However, Congress recently voted to give $1.5 trillion in tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires. I am proud to be running for Congress to invest in our people, not to line the pockets of millionaires and billionaires.
