Reason for Seeking Public Office:

Year after year we hear Republican legislators talk about how they are going to cut state spending, protect our PFD, improve education, make public safety a priority, and stand firmly against unconstitutional federal overreach here in Alaska.

But when they go back to Juneau, all too often, priorities change and they lose the will power and energy to fight for us. Try as they might, they end up contributing to the very problems we sent them to Juneau to fix.

My opponent, Representative Keller, first started working for the legislature in the 90's. He is now running for his 6th term in office. As a legislator, he has voted for unbalanced, unsustainable state budgets every single year for the last nine years. By voting for the largest deficits in state history, he has led us to the situation in which we find ourselves today. After consuming record deficits over the last nine years, our insatiable state bureaucracy now wants to put the PFD on the menu.

Politicians want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to say YES to the special interests lobbying for more bloated state spending (can you believe what Alaskans are paying to lease the legislature's Taj Mahal in Anchorage?), and they want to then turn around and say YES to voters at election time when it comes to protecting the PFD and opposing taxes. The math doesn't add up, and the governor has been asking the legislature to cut the PFD to less than half of the ~$2,300 it is expected to be this year.

Because of their failure to rein in spending, politicians like Rep. Keller now find themselves advocating for terrible legislation like SB 91, in hopes of cutting costs in our criminal justice system. As Governor Parnell, Sen. Mike Dunleavy and numerous members of the law enforcement community have pointed out, this is a bad bill and the governor should have vetoed it. The costs outweigh the benefits, and our public safety should not be sacrificed simply because politicians failed to cut government excesses elsewhere.

My name is David Eastman and I am running for the Alaska State House (District 10) to fight for genuine conservative reform, fiscally and socially, and to retire the failed incumbent politicians who got us into this mess in the first place. Rather than leave government up to the special interests, together we must chart a new course.

With your help I believe we can make great strides toward ensuring that our communities are great places to live, work, and raise a family. These are my goals, and I thank and look forward to working with every Alaskan to achieve them.
