Eveline 'Eve' H. Brownstein

Other Party
Policy Positions

Eveline H. Brownstein's campaign website highlights the following issues:

Abortion & Reproductive Issues:

Pro-life a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes b) Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
Yes c) Should abortion be legal when the life of the woman is endangered?
Yes d) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
  e) Other or expanded principles:
The use of public funds to support private decisions only expands the coercive burden on taxpayers and gives politicians in government absolute control over the funding. I believe in voluntary public contributions to the organizations that provide these valuable services. Voluntary contributions ensure that the funding is always available and not at the whim of political caucuses or the sitting President who can remove the funding with the stroke of a pen.

Budget, Spending, & Tax Issues:

1) Budget Stabilization:
Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing New Jersey's budget.
No a) Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions
No b) Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees
No c) Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients
No d) An income tax increase on any tax bracket
  e) Other or expanded principles:
Instead of reducing these items, the New Jersey legislature needs to reduce its spending in general. State employees have negotiated contracts that the state is obligated to uphold. This does not mean that contracts with new employees have to be similar. New contracts should be better negotiated. The taxpayers of this state are already over-taxed. An increase in ANY tax bracket will only serve to drive more people out of the state leaving the remaining residents to shoulder a larger tax burden. There is much waste in Trenton. Let's look there first, instead of punishing state employees or current taxpayers.

Campaign Finance & Government Reform Issues:

a) Do you support limits on the following types of contributions for state candidates?
No 1) Individual
Yes 2) Political Action Committee
Yes 3) Corporate
No 4) Political Party
Yes b) Do you support requiring full and timely disclosure of campaign finance information?
Yes c) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes d) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
No e) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
  f) Other or expanded principles:
I only support the use of an independent commission for redistricting (not bipartisan, as that is self-serving). However, I would like to see a more representative government of the people and do not support districting, but rather ranked choice voting.

Crime & Public Safety Issues:

No a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes b) Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders, such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
Yes c) Do you support legalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana?
No d) Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
No e) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
Yes f) Do you support delaying the seizure of assets by law enforcement officials until after a conviction?
  g) Other or expanded principles:

Economic Issues:

No a) Do you support government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes b) Do you support lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes c) Do you support reducing government regulations on the private sector?
No d) Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
No e) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
No f) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage?
Yes g) Do you support legalized state-sponsored sports betting in New Jersey?
No h) Do you support a tax on short-term housing rentals in New Jersey?
  i) Other or expanded principles:

Education Issues:

No a) Do you support the national Common Core State Standards initiative?
Yes b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
Yes c) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from New Jersey high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities in New Jersey?
  d) Other or expanded principles:

Environment & Energy Issues:

No a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
No b) Do you support state funding for open space preservation?
No c) Do you support government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
  d) Other or expanded principles:
I am opposed to increased coercive taxation to achieve these goals.

Gun Issues:

No a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
No b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
Yes c) Should citizens be allowed to carry concealed guns?
No d) Should a license be required for gun possession?
  e) Other or expanded principles:
Restrictions and controls violate the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of these United States of America

Health Issues:

No a) Do you support a universally-accessible, publicly-administered health insurance option?
No b) Do you support Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
No c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
Yes d) Do you support allowing doctors to prescribe marijuana to their patients for medicinal purposes?
  e) Other or expanded principles:
I believe that all residents in this country should be able to purchase the health insurance products that best meet their individual needs and enter into confidential and private arrangements with doctors for their health care. I support being able to purchase health insurance products across state lines, and even from outside of the country, without government interference and that purchasers be treated like adults when deciding what products with what features they wish to purchase.

Social Issues:

Yes a) Do you support same-sex marriage?
Yes b) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in New Jersey's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes c) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in New Jersey's anti-discrimination laws?
  d) Other or expanded principles:
However, I do not think that the Federal or State governments should be involved in the privately negotiated relationships between consenting adults, nor should be concerned with the definitions of what constitutes a marriage.

Legislative Priorities:

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
I am 100% committed to reducing Property Taxes by rolling back property taxes to 2010 levels and permanently freezing them at no more than 1.5% of the property's value as of that date. I seek to eliminate all local Boards of Education and create a county Board of Education with fewer administrators, responsible for apportioning equal expenditures per pupil in every school in the county and the ability for parents to send their children to any school of their choosing, within the county. Property tax levies for municipal services must be voted on by the residents by a 2/3 majority.
