The Republican-controlled Senate voted on Wednesday to officially acquit the president on both articles of impeachment.

On the first article of impeachment, “abuse of power,” 52 Republicans voted to acquit the president, but GOP Sen. Mitt Romney joined all 47 Senate Democrats and voted to convict the president.

Romney was the only Republican to vote against the president.

The vote on the second article of impeachment, “obstruction of Congress,” concluded with all 53 Republicans voted to acquit the president and all 47 Senate Democrats voted to convict the president.

Romney sided with Republicans to acquit the president on the charge of obstruction of Congress.

Now, a former spokesman for Romney’s unsuccessful 2012 presidential campaign is speaking out to say that the senator’s vote that Trump was guilty of impeachable offenses “was motivated by bitterness and jealousy.” 

Rick Gorka, who is currently a communications director for the Republican National Committee (RNC), took to Twitter to say that Romney is just bitter that Trump “accomplished what he [Romney] has failed to do multiple times.”

He went on to slam Romney for pandering to the very Democrats who ensured he did not win the presidency in 2012.

“These are the same people that hated Mitt in 2012 and they will hate him again when they are done with him,” he added. “It is sad to see that Mitt has not learned the lessons from 2012. Now he has betrayed his Party and millions of voters.”

Gorka wasn’t the only person calling Romney out for his bitterness today, as the president’s son Donald Trump Jr. also got in on the action, going so far as to call for the senator to be “expelled from the GOP.”

“Mitt Romney is forever bitter that he will never be POTUS. He was too weak to beat the Democrats then so he’s joining them now,” he tweeted. “He’s now officially a member of the resistance & should be expelled from the GOP.”

Democrats spent a month complaining about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell holding an unfair investigation, but that's literally what Democrats did for three months in the House of Representatives.

Democrats endlessly whined, issued ridiculous demands for months, and are already claiming the process was "rigged."

They have accused Trump of just about everything imaginable, and after months of wasting taxpayer dollars to hold impeachment hearings, they still can't prove the president did anything wrong.

And now, one day after his historic State of the Union address, the president has been acquitted and completely exonerated.
