Feinstein's Comments on Kavanaugh Come Back to Bite Her After Biden Allegations Surface
May 8, 2020Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein has come under fire after she has tried to dismiss the sexual assault allegation against former Vice President Joe Biden. The attempt to dismiss the allegation is extremely hypocritical of Feinstein considering she was on the front lines when it came to defending Christine Ford when she accused Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, saying at the time that victims “must be able to come forward only when they are ready.”
According to CNN's Manu Raju, when asked on Thursday about the blatant "double standard," Feinstein responded and said that the two situations were "totally different" and not "comparable."
“Kavanuagh was under the harshest inspection that we give people over a substantial period of time,” said Feinstein.
“And I don’t know this person at all who has made the allegations,” she added. “She came out of nowhere. Where has she been all these years? He was Vice President.”
“Why didn’t she say something — you know when he was Chairman of the Judiciary Committee or after that?” Feinstein asked, completely disregarding her comments in the past when she said that victims “must be able to come forward only when they are ready.”
Feinstein doubled down by mentioning Biden's record on advocating for sexual assault victims, saying “to attack [Biden] this way to me is absolutely ridiculous."
The comments by Feinstein are the definition of hypocrisy considering she was the one who defended victims during the Kavanaugh hearings, saying that victims should be able to wait for however long they want until they feel comfortable with sharing their stories.
“Victims must be able to come forward only when they are ready,” Feinstein tweeted back on Sept. 21, 2018.

“The president’s instinct to attack women and victims of assault was on display again today,” Feinstein added. “70% of sexual assault victims do NOT report their attack to police for a range of reasons: fear of retaliation, shame and belief the police won’t take them seriously. Dr. Blasey Ford has seen her worst fears come true. She’s receiving death threats and has been forced to leave her home. It’s time to stop blaming the victim and treat these allegations with the seriousness and respect they deserve.”
On the same day that Feinstein made these comments, a California newspaper reported that Reade told her husband at the time, Theodore Dronen, of the sexual harassment from Joe Biden.
The court document from 1996 reads:
I met Petitioner in the spring of 1993 while working in Washington, D.C. At the early stages of our dating, Petitioner felt comfortable confiding in me as we both worked for Members of Congress, and we shared many other common interests. On several occasions Petitioner related a problem that she was having at work regarding sexual harassment, in U.S. Senator Joe Biden’s office. Petitioner told me that she eventually struck a deal with the chief of staff of the Senator’s office and left her position. I was sympathetic to her needs when she asked me for help, and assisted her financially, and allowed her to stay at my apartment with my roommate while she looked for work. It was obvious that this event had a very traumatic effect on Petitioner, and that she is still sensitive and effected by it today.
Reade's former husband has since confirmed that there was “very traumatic” harassment that occurred “in U.S. Senator Joe Biden’s office.”
