Fly becomes breakout star of the debate

An uninvited guest stole the spotlight for a portion of Wednesday night's vice presidential debate: a fly that perched upon Vice President Mike Pence's hair.
The fly remained on the vice president's head for about two minutes. As Sen. Kamala Harris and Pence spoke about racial justice and police brutality, it did not budge, nor did Pence acknowledge its presence.
It eventually flew away on its own, leaving as quietly as it had arrived.
But for a time, the black fly was hard to ignore as it perched in Pence's white hair, immediately captivating social media.
Within minutes, it had its own Twitter persona.
"Everyone jealous because I got the best seat for the debate tonight," tweeted @MikePenceFly.
Many fly fans quickly emerged.
Jokes about the fly took over the Twitterverse, with users ranking the winner of the debate among Harris, Pence and the fly. Even Harris’ niece, Meena Harris, joined in the fun, ranking the fly as finishing in second place behind the senator.
Democratic nominee Joe Biden got in on the action, tweeting a picture of himself with a fly swatter.
His campaign also reacted fast, buying the domain flywillvote.com, which redirects the user to iwillvote.com, a voter registration site that is operated by the DNC.
