GOP Rep. Threatens To Oust Pelosi as House Speaker If She Tries Impeaching Trump
September 24, 2020House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Wednesday threatened to introduce a motion to oust House Speaker Nancy Pelosi if she attempts to impeach President Donald Trump or Attorney General William Barr as a delay tactic to prevent the Senate from confirming Trump's Supreme Court nominee.
Democrats are pushing Pelosi to impeach Trump or Barr to stall the president from filling Ruth Bader Ginsburg's seat before the election.
Appearing Sunday on ABC's "This Week," Pelosi said, “We have our options. We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now.”
“The president is supposed to move forward and they will. The Senate is supposed to take the action and they will — it's their constitutional right and they are following through,” he told reporters at a press briefing on Wednesday.
“And I will make you this one promise, listening to the Speaker on television this weekend, if she tries to move for an impeachment based upon the president following the Constitution, I think there will be a move on the floor to no longer have the question of her being Speaker. She may think she has a quiver — we do too,” he added.
Pelosi has mentioned impeachment twice in the last week.
During an interview with the New York Times, Pelosi told Kara Swisher that the House of Representatives can impeach President Donald Trump “every day of the week for anything he does.”
Swisher, a tech journalist with left-wing views, was pushing Pelosi to commit to doing more to fight back against Trump, Republicans, and the conservative agenda.
During an interview Sunday on ABC, Pelosi refused to rule out the possibility of House Democrats launching an impeachment proceeding against Trump in response to the president nominating someone to fill Ginsburg's seat.
Trump wants to move ahead with the process of confirming a new justice. Democrats want Trump to wait until after the election in the hope that Joe Biden will win.
ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos asked Pelosi whether the House might revisit impeaching Trump.
“Some have mentioned the possibility if they try to push through a nominee in a lame-duck session that you and the House can move to impeach President Trump or Attorney General Barr as a way of stalling and preventing the Senate from acting on this nomination,” he said.
“Well, we have our options. We have arrows in our quiver that I’m not about to discuss right now, but the fact is we have a big challenge in our country,” she replied.
She then claimed that Trump “has threatened to not even accept the results of the election with statements that he and his henchmen have made.”
Stephanopoulos tried to focus on impeachment.
“But to be clear, you’re not taking any arrows out of your quiver, you’re not ruling anything out?” he asked.
“Good morning. Sunday morning,” Pelosi joked. “Yeah. We have a responsibility. We’ve taken an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. We have a responsibility to meet the needs of the American people.
“That is when we weigh the equities of protecting our democracy requires us to use every arrow in our quiver,” she said.
