Gov. Newsom Literally Just Banned Singing in Church over 'COVID'
July 3, 2020If you still had doubts that Democrat governors weren’t enjoying using their newfound emergency powers during the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Gavin Newsom of California should make you a believer.
In a new edict issued from his throne in Sacramento, Lord Newsom decreed that, while his subjects were constitutionally permitted to attend the religious service of their choice, they shalt not sing to the Lord their God (or to any other deity or entity) because…COVID-19.
Singing spreads coronavirus, apparently. Gotta ‘follow that science,’ don’t you know?
The Sacramento Bee reports:
Californians are still free to attend their house of worship. But they’re forbidden from singing or chanting.
Updated COVID-19 guidelines issued Wednesday by the state Department of Public Health require churches and other houses of worship to “discontinue singing and chanting activities.”
In previously allowing religious organizations to reopen in late May, the state merely said these institutions should “strongly consider discontinuing singing, group recitation, and other practices and performances.”
The paper goes on to say that federal health agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also say singing can hasten the spread of coronavirus.
“Activities such as singing and chanting negate the risk reduction achieved through six feet of physical distancing,” declared one of Lord Newsom’s government agencies.
Additional new regulations put more burdens on churches, requiring them to provide masks to worshippers who don’t have one.
Equating singing in church with the spreading of a virus in the same way a forceful sneeze does is ridiculous. If you’ve ever been to church, you know that when it comes time to sing a hymn, most people either don’t sing at all or are barely audible.
Also, we suppose these same ‘come but don’t sing’ rules are going to be kept in place in perpetuity because we all know how ‘singing and chanting’ can spread influenza…right?
But enough of the buffoonery: How is Newsom planning to enforce this nonsensical mandate? Will he send in the King’s army with a mission to quell the rebellious harmonies? Will police be empowered to belt the haughty knaves and lasses who dare engage in the high crime of song and celebration while under a viral emergency?
Or will worshippers simply risk the gauntlet of law enforcers and sing like no one’s listening?

Understand that houses of worship were the most aggressive in pushing back against Newsom’s tyrannical shutdown orders from the outset of the pandemic – mostly because the First Amendment’s freedom of religion clause does not come with a ‘but not during pandemics’ rider.
But what’s worse is that several federal courts in various states sided with the Democrat tyrants, despite the fact that their role is to determine whether laws and policies comport with our founding document. And clearly, forbidding church for any reason while ‘allowing’ the local Walmart to remain open doesn’t fit the framers’ constitutional religious standard.
That said, what are we to expect from a tyrant who shuts down wineries in wine-producing counties (because muh coronavirus) but not the one in which he owns a lot of stock?
