Ilhan Omar's Hometown Newspaper Endorses Her Opponent In Dem Primary
August 8, 2020The controversial political career of Rep. Ilhan Omar may be over before it really ever got started as the Minnesota Democrat faces a date with destiny in next week's primary.
The Somali-born Omar has been a lightning rod for Dems due to her rabble-rousing, ethics problems, and unapologetic anti-Semitism which doesn't sit well with many constituents in her Minneapolis district nor does the possibility that she married her own brother.

Among those who are not impressed by Omar's antics is the editorial board at her hometown newspaper which has endorsed her opponent in Tuesday's primary.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune has thrown its support to Antone Melton-Meaux who is an attorney and political newcomer who is running on a platform of respectfully listening to others and finding common ground to arrive at real solutions.
With large portions of their city having been reduced to smoldering ruins after the George Floyd riots and radicals like Omar pushing for the elimination of the police, voters could be looking for a congressional representative who isn't a political arsonist like Omar.

The editorial board for the largest newspaper in Minnesota threw its support behind Rep. Ilhan Omar’s opponent.
The Star Tribune published an opinion piece Wednesday titled "Fifth District endorsement: Melton-Meaux, for integrity and progress," which outlined its support for Antone Melton-Meaux over incumbent candidate Omar.
“After careful consideration and interviews with both, the Star Tribune Editorial Board recommends Melton-Meaux, a first-time candidate with strong progressive values that align well with the district, as well as consensus-building skills honed as a professional mediator,” the piece read.
The board went on to argue that Melton-Meaux, who calls himself “a lifelong progressive Democrat,” would better represent citizens within the Minneapolis district on issues such as healthcare and criminal justice.
“Whether it’s health care, criminal justice or affordable housing, Melton-Meaux appears progressive, but pragmatic. While Omar wants to lead a movement, Melton-Meaux seeks to serve the Fifth District,” the paper said.
The editorial board also warned that Omar has overemphasized her victories in Congress since she was elected in 2018.
“As she did in the Minnesota House, Omar risks overstating her legislative wins. She notes that she has co-sponsored more than 500 bills. That’s about average for Democrats in the Minnesota delegation. Omar did succeed in getting school meals included in COVID-19 relief, an achievement worth noting,” the board wrote.
“Omar’s 2018 victory launched her into the national spotlight as the first Muslim woman and first refugee elected to Congress. But her time has been marred by missteps, including remarks on Israel widely regarded as anti-Semitic, an outsized number of missed votes, and campaign-finance issues," the paper continued.

As a charter member of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's infamous "Squad" Omar is a rock star with a media that covers for her hatred of Israel and Jewish people in general because she regularly attacks President Trump on Twitter.
Melton-Meaux has taken Omar's popularity in Twitter world and turned it against her. In a statement on his website, he calls her out:
Today’s politics are divisive and hyper-partisan. We need people in Congress who want to get things done—not who get distracted fighting with Donald Trump on Twitter or even with their own party. I’ll do the hard work that comes along with the demands of public office, while remaining Focused On The Fifth. I’m dedicated to service, not celebrity.
A true progressive is committed to progress not perfection. When we demand ideological purity, we leave out so many who would otherwise join us, and we weaken our movement. That hurts all of us. That’s the politics of division.
OUCH!
The paper also notes that unlike Omar, Melton-Meaux is not an extremist who is demanding the dismantling of the Minneapolis Police Department.
Via The Star-Tribune:
Melton-Meaux brings a different sensibility to this race, one grounded in helping resolve disputes to move forward — a skill this country is much in need of. His thoughtful approach holds out the promise of building common ground. Whether it’s health care, criminal justice or affordable housing, Melton-Meaux appears progressive, but pragmatic. While Omar wants to lead a movement, Melton-Meaux seeks to serve the Fifth District.
On law enforcement, Melton-Meaux told the Editorial Board regarding the death of George Floyd: “I’ve had my own issues with police, even being detained as a law student by two white officers. I know that could have been a knee on my neck but for a few circumstances.” But instead of Omar’s calls to defund and even dismantle the police, Melton-Meaux would work to create a system in which police are held accountable for their actions.
The endorsement did not sit well with former congressman and current Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, a man who has touted ANTIFA and has been friendly with the savage hatemonger Minister Louis Farrakhan who praised Hitler and compared Jews to insects.
Voters will get the chance to correct their mistake on Tuesday as well as to provide a stinging rebuke to Ellison and the bigots and communists who continue to support Rep. Omar.
AOC and Rashida Tlaib both overwhelmingly won their primaries, Omar may not be so fortunate.
