Policy Positions

Washington State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Abortion & Reproductive

1. Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
- Pro-choice

2. Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
- Yes

3. Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- A woman's decision whether to continue or end a pregnancy is strictly between her and her doctor in all circumstances. I will fight to protect a woman's right to choose and to ensure that the full range of reproductive healthcare is accessible and affordable for all regardless of level of income or community where the individual lives.

Budget, Spending, & Tax

Budget Stabilization:

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Washington's budget.

1. Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
- No

2. Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
- No

3. Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
- No

4. Other or expanded principles
- We must reform Washington State's regressive tax structure. I support instituting a capital gains tax and closing tax loopholes. We must also reform the business and occupation tax.

- Yes

- Yes

3. Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
- Yes

4. Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- I support getting the excessive influence of the rich and powerful out of our political process and making it easier to vote, not harder.

Crime & Public Safety

1. Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
- No

2. Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
- Yes

3. Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
- No

4. Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
- No

5. Other or expanded principles
- No Answer

- Yes

3. Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom?
- No

4. Should a license be required for gun ownership?
- Yes

5. Other or expanded principles
- I think owners should be able to pass a gun safety exam and rigorous, standardized training should be available and administered by state-licensed or operated facilities. I am opposed to laws that require guns be stored a certain way within an owner's home. I am somewhat on the fence about raising the age limit to own firearms and lean towards being opposed to it. If it does get raised, I think current gun owners under the new age limit should be grandfathered in.

Legislative Priorities

In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, your top two or three priorities if elected. If they require additional funding for implementation, please explain how you would obtain this funding.
- -Increase funding for universities/colleges and expand trade school/union apprenticeship programs for high school students and beyond. -Expand and improve infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and affordable, competitive broadband and cell service in rural communities. -Encourage tech, green energy, and other industries in the district and fund programs that would provide entrepreneurs and startups financing to help launch businesses in areas where incentives would have a high return on investment for the community as a whole, ensuring that as communities expand, affordable housing is available, schools and other resources are equipped for growth, and natural and historic areas are preserved.
