Alexander received a B.A. in business administration and a B.A. in computer science from Southern College. She previously served on the city council of Bessemer, Alabama. Her professional experience includes serving in the U.S. Army, working for the U.S. Postal Service, and founding Alexander Unity Flowers & Gift. She has been a member of the Alabama Democratic Party and served as a delegate for Barack Obama at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
