McKinsey allows Buttigieg to disclose clients

McKinsey, the management consulting company Pete Buttigieg worked for after college, has released Buttigieg from a confidentiality agreement and will allow him to name the clients he served.
“We recognize the unique circumstances presented by a presidential campaign,” a McKinsey spokesperson said in a statement. “After receiving permission from the relevant clients, we have informed Mr. Buttigieg that he may disclose the identity of the clients he served while at McKinsey from 2007 to 2010.”
Buttigieg has faced weeks of criticism from rival candidates and Democratic activists over his employment at McKinsey, as his standing has improved in recent polls of Iowa and New Hampshire. The critics — including Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren— have questioned whether the South Bend, Ind., mayor’s work at the consulting firm was consistent with party values, but Buttigieg has said that the nondisclosure agreement he signed upon going to work for the company prevented him from sharing specifics.
McKinsey has garnered criticism recently over the company's consulting work with clients including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Purdue Pharma, and authoritarian governments. Buttigieg has said that he disagreed with some of the work the company had done since he left, and he said that he did not work on any projects "inconsistent with my values."
Last week, Buttigieg’s campaign shared new, but incomplete, details about the type of firms and projects he worked on in his time at McKinsey. They included a “nonprofit health care provider” and work on renewable energy issues involving the Environmental Protection Agency, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Department of Energy. Buttigieg also did consulting work in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"We can further confirm that the clients Mr. Buttigieg described in his statement on Friday, December 6 are all of the clients he served during his time at McKinsey," the McKinsey spokesperson said.
