New Jersey police arrested the host of a party held Sunday night that defied the state order put in place to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

The Howell Township Police Department said the host of the party was arrested after officers responded to break up the "pop-up party" they said had about 300 people in attendance. 

The department requested assistance from surrounding counties and state troopers to disperse the crowd. 

Police said most of the attendees were compliant but that others were “hesitant” and directed “anger towards the host who charged admission.” 

Police said a majority of people who attended the party are not local. 

The party, which was being called “Real Big Drip 5," had been advertised through social media, NJ.com reported. 

An Instagram post advertising the event read, “PRIVATE Location in CENTRAL Jersey...Advance Tixs...Females $30.00 Male $40.00” and advertised a DJ and pool party as part of the festivities, according to the outlet. 

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) tightened restrictions on indoor gatherings earlier this month, limiting indoor events to a maximum of 25 people.
