POLITICO Fellows Program Opens Applications for 2022 Session
September 16, 2021ARLINGTON, Va. — POLITICO today announced the launch of the 2022 session of The POLITICO Fellows, a competitive professional program that offers four enterprising journalists a front-row seat covering the biggest storylines dominating Washington. In partnership with the National Association of Black Journalists, The POLITICO Fellows seeks to empower journalists aspiring to jump-start a career in politics and policy journalism.
The 12-month program trains professionals who might not have gotten the opportunity to cover the White House, Congress and policy areas such as health care, trade, technology and finance. Reporting opportunities will include in-depth exploration of how key issues impact underrepresented communities. Upon successful completion of the program, participants are offered a full-time reporting role in the POLITICO newsroom.
"POLITICO’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion has advanced through our partnership with NABJ in The POLITICO Fellows program," said Robin Turner, director of editorial diversity initiatives at POLITICO. “We are incredibly proud to identify and develop the most promising journalists of the next generation as we strengthen the diversity of voices in our journalism and newsroom. Our work is even better with our fellows' contributions as we deliver even more textured and culturally sensitive reporting.”
POLITICO values its partnership with NABJ as a leader in newsroom diversity as it continues to advance its editorial initiatives, add diverse leadership roles and increasing diverse content in its editorial coverage. The fellowship program is one of POLITICO's journalism training programs, reflecting POLITICO’s commitment to the development of journalists at all levels. It features monthly workshops, mentoring and other training as well as editorial rotations for career exploration.
"NABJ values its partnership with POLITICO,” said Dorothy Tucker, president of NABJ. “We appreciate POLITICO’s commitment to diversity and applaud the progress we have witnessed. Diverse voices make the newsroom's product better and offer our members an opportunity to work for a well-respected publication. It's a win-win for NABJ and POLITICO."
Candidates with strong writing and analytical skills, a passion for politics or policy, the ability to work well with others and a desire to learn and grow at the premier news organization covering politics and policy in the United States are encouraged to apply. POLITICO will select an NABJ member for one of four slots. Two fellows will be chosen to begin in January; and two fellows will begin in June.
